See Hill for SFI-rated Coldfire.
28th February: UK Jet Funny Car pilot Martin Hill tells us that the Coldfire fire suppressant
system has now gained SFI certification and that he is able to supply Coldfire systems to racers.
"Coldfire has gained its long-overdue SFI certification of 17.1", says Martin. "This product is one of the best, if not the best, product on the market in liquid fire
suppressants and is now fully certified to SFI standards for use in all classes within drag racing. I have been involved with this product for couple of years and
after supplying the raw product for the fire safety vehicles at several race tracks I will now be able to supply complete systems for race cars.
©Eurodragster.com
"I will be stocking both 10lb and 5lb bottles with both cable and pneumatic injectors, spray nozzles, cables and bottle clamps everything needed to fit a
system. I will have spare bottles fully charged at the majority of venues and also will be able to re-charge discharged bottles and re-certify ready to race.
This will be a brand new service which I believe will be a first for the UK and Europe.
"A full price and parts list will be available by the end of this month with product at the same time and prices will be similar to other systems available.
If anyone would like more information then please contact me at the race track or E-Mail me at
martin@fireforceracing.freeserve.co.uk."

28th February: Further to Jerry Cookson's report on the weekend's Historic Motorsports Show,
legendary UK Pro Fuel racer Peter Crane says that he rode the Yellow Peril sprinter.
"Look at Readers' Gallery 14 on the Acceleration Archive
and you will see me on Yellow Peril!", says Europe's first five-second runner. "If you have any photos of the Hustler Funny Car
you will see I paid tribute to those times with 'Yellow Peril' emblazoned on the back of the Funny Car."

Get a slice of Orange.
28th February: The UK's Orange Pop Drag Racing Outlaw Anglia team have introduced
a range of merchandise to help fund an engine rebuild, says team member Jason Yates. T-Shirts (right), mouse
mats, key rings, magnets, rulers, bottle openers, coasters and stickers are all on offer.

"Merchandise will be available at race meetings, but if you can't attend races then don't worry, you can
purchase them by E-Mailing me at fordpop@hotmail.com",
says Jay. "A big shout to Andy at Punki Munki Design (07738 581780) for all of his help setting up the merchandise,
to Richard Stirling for the use of his pictures, and to
all of you out there if you purchase our products."
Scale scene growing.
28th February: Steve Adamson says that the scale drag racing scene is growing in Europe
with affiliations with clubs in the the USA as well as work to organise European rounds.
"About three months ago I started work with other slot drag racers to get us Brits affiliated with one of the larger USA slot drag clubs",
says Steve. "This has now happened for 1/24 scale racing and the smaller 1/64th scale dragsters, we have now become the European division of both the
Scale Drag Racing Association (1/24) and the HO Drag Racing Association (1/64) - a new 1/64 record of 0.262 seconds has just been set for the scale
quarter mile. I will shortly be contacting both Santa Pod and York Raceway to see if we could run Divisional rounds during the real racing and maybe
have a national round at Santa Pod.
"It doesn't stop there, as we now have members from Austria, France, Germany and Malta joining in with us. They are eager to try to arrange a true European
round within five years."

"To find out what this is all about you will have to look at the new page which also includes a report on drag racing in Hungary, dragsters at the NEC and
the little-known Liquidator funny car. Regular readers will also notice that a new compact, fast-loading Site Map has been introduced which should cut down
on the amount of scrolling needed to find your favourite pages". Check it out at

Thinking Pink again.
27th February: UK Comp Bike wife and husband team Sandra and Roland Chaplain are preparing their new Pro Mod bike for an April début.
"The only thing shared with the old bike is the paint scheme being pink", Sandra told Eurodragster.com at Xtreme Wheels International on Saturday. "We will stick with the seven-inch
tyre but the frame will be able to accommodate a wider tyre should it be required", added Roland. "I am keen to use a tyre size that puts a smaller amount of stress on the transmission."
©Eurodragster.com
The bike will be all-new including a modified Pro Stock frame, stretched at the back end, which will be lighter than the previous bike. There will be a new Suzuki nitrous 1327 cc
motor too, identical in specification to the previous bike, which for the moment will remain in the Chaplain workshop. The gearbox will be automatic enabling the motor to maintain
revs and the front wheel to be carried further in the run.
"We are hoping for a seven this year and got fairly close with the old bike which ran as fast as 8.2", said Roland. "However we will take the new bike gradually, one step at a time."
Sandra was promoting Breast Cancer Awareness at Xtreme Wheels International by handing out Think Pink badges, and for more details the web site to
check out is www.cancerresearchuk.org/breastcancer.

Historic Motorsports Show report.
27th February: The Third International Historic Motorsports Show, held at Stoneleigh Park at the weekend, reported healthy
crowds of eager racegoers during the first two days, writes Jerry Cookson:
Although the show lacked the appearance of any Nostalgia drag racers, several companies involved in the sport were present. With most of the drag racing
sector covered, making a break into the historic car racing market was
Andy Robinson Race Cars. Andy, along with Kate and Bob Roberts reported a
healthy interest in ARRC's products and services. Every time I toured around the Accessories/Engineering hall there were plenty of interested potential
customers seeking advice.
Steve Woods from Motorshack, UK importer and distributors for VP Racing Fuels,
Klotz Racing Lubricants and NOS nitrous sytems, was also in attendance. Steve tells me that he has further increased his on track support to drag racers
by offering nitrous fill ups trackside at both Santa Pod and Shakespeare County Raceway events this year. His stock of NOS Nitrous Systems products
is every bit as comprehensive as the American catalogue will allow.
Race Shack, home to one of Europe’s most advanced dynamometers at their base in
Tewkesbury, were in attendance promoting their full range of tuning and race preparations. The guys tell me that interest is growing all of the time and
attending shows like this helps the business grow along with their rolling advert in Keith Ridley's Pro ET Ford Escort.
Another company with a keen association with drag racing was RCS Ringsham UK. RCS
offer applications from shifter systems, gearshift, and throttle to roll bar cables, and have been used successfully by a number of UK drag racers including
ARRC and the Shockwave Funny Car team (and have signed up with Andy Carter for this year - Ed).
In the bike section, the National Sprint Association used the show to promote their brand
of quarter mile sprinting as well as releasing their 2006 schedule which includes an event at Santa Pod on 24th September. NSA South organiser Dave
Massam tells that venues are in short supply at the moment with the possible loss of Smeatharpe strip at the end of the year. So a possible break into
permanent strips like Santa Pod could be on for 2007.
Amongst the displays was Bill Bragg's 1960s Yellow Peril sprinter (right) restored in 2005 by
Maitland Racing. The bike was powered by a 650 cc Triumph and ran the quarter mile in 13.39 seconds as a solo and 13.90s at 147 mph as a sidecar
with a passenger onboard. The bike was found in a collapsed shed in West London. It made its reappearance at last year's North Weald Classic Bike
Sprint, and was ridden by former drag racer and sprint star Norman Hyde.
Talking with race organiser Keith Barber from the BriSCA Heritage racers for sixties style Formula Two Stock Car Racing, it would appear that former
drag racer Pat Cuss (builder of the Bel-Ray Streamliner and Ratcatcher dragsters) is now supplying racers with modified Comp Altered glass replica
Fiat Topolino bodies which, in those days, was the staple diet of stadium stock cars. So it comes as no surprise that Pat is now in demand once again.
Alan Smith, owner of the sole remaining Allard Dragon slingshot dragster from the mid-sixties, Avanti, reports that the car will be back in action this
year with the Wild Bunch. Alan is currently reassembling the 1600 cc blown four-cylinder pre-Crossflow engine with help from Adrian Sidwell who also has
a keen interest in the Allard Dragons and the Opus HRF, the UK's original kit car.
Next year's show has already been booked and it is hoped that Nostalgia drag racing will feature once again!

Isaac Instruments have been designing and building top quality motorsport data logging systems and sensors for
over ten years from their offices near Montreal in Canada. Datron Technology are very pleased to have been
appointed Isaac's European distributor.
Isaac products have been race-proven in the very harshest of environments, none more so than Snowmobile racing with its
constant pounding vibrations and arctic temperatures. Anything which can survive under those extreme conditions will be
reliable and long-lived on any drag strip or race track in Europe.
Isaac users race in drag racing, stock cars, Endurance and GT racing, sports cars and single seaters in North America.
Isaac make two types of data recorder, Standard and the Pro. Both share many basic features:

inputs (EGT, oil pressure, fuel pressure, etc) plus USB and serial ports.
The V7-STD logger has as standard, three digital inputs and four analogue inputs plus USB and serial ports.
Datron Technology are dedicated specialists in Data Recording and Sensor technology, supplying only those products and
not racing components, tuning hardware, wheels or similar items. Datron provide users with full telephone technical
support for Europe from the UK.
"At last there is a high-quality, rugged, professional data recording system available at the kind of prices that serious
racers can afford", says Dave Burditt, Isaac product manager at Datron. "For instance,a complete basic kit including sensors,
for a typical Pro-class drag car can be bought for less than £5000 + VAT and a Standard logger kit starts at less
than £2000 + VAT
"The Isaac systems are race-bred and race-proven in the harshest of environments and are now also used in the testing of
aircraft and military vehicles."

Review: John Force biography.
26th February: Erik Arneson's name will be familiar to Eurodragster.com readers as the author of the excellent biography of
Darrell Gwynn. John Force: The Straight Story Of Drag Racing's 300 mph Superstar is Erik's latest drag racing biography and it doesn't disappoint.
The book consists of seven chapters, each of which are pretty well self-contained. The first chapter, John's life story until he started racing FCs, contains a lot
of information which will be new to fans. It is a matter of record that John did not have an easy start in life, but Erik has managed to retell John's early years
without resorting to the saccharine so beloved of some of his media colleagues in the USA, but neither does he stray into Jerry Springer territory which would
have been equally easy.
Force fans will likely find chapter two, covering John's start in racing up to his employment of Austin Coil, particularly interesting reading because everyone knows
how the story continues after that. I learned quite a lot from this chapter, for example that when he started racing FCs John developed a reputation as a 'leaker' and
that he had many of his peers convinced that sooner or later he was going to kill himself. There are some great anecdotes from those who tried to take John in
hand, and Gary Densham's comment that one of John's early crew members "Didn't know much more than how to operate a rag" has to be one of the funniest drag
racing quotes ever.
Chapters three to seven will be the most familiar to fans: the phrase "And the rest is history" springs to mind after Austin Coil hooked up with John but one thing
made clear here is that the success didn't come immediately. Although telling a well-known tale, this book wins out because never before has all of the history
been together in one place, and there are still a few surprises to be had including John's astounding reaction to his daughters playing with McDonald's toys after
Cruz Pedregon took the 1992 NHRA Championship, the story of how Tony Pedregon made a pest of himself in his quest to drive for John, and the frankest
account I've yet read of Tony's departure from the team. The steady expansion of the team into today's multi-car operation is also recounted in detail.
©Eurodragster.com
The final chapter also describes the entry of John's three daughters Ashley, Brittany and Courtney into racing. John's wife Laurie lets slip that she deliberately
chose the three daughters' names using the first three letters of the alphabet so that John would remember them, which is a hint of just what a successful Pro
racing career did to John's family life. There is no hint of bitterness, though, and it is clear that both John and his wife are delighted that their daughters are racing
because it has brought them closer.
The final paragraph of the book contains a classic Force-ism, worth the price of the book alone, about what he will likely be doing at age seventy five.
An appendix summarises John's racing career up to the end of 2005.
It is made clear that this book is not an official biography. In these days of information freely available on the internet, the lazy author can write a biography on
anyone in days or hours by visiting a small number of web sites and copying what he finds there. But we know Erik Arneson better than that, and this is no cheap
and sloppy cash-in job: the biography reads as if it were the official item - in fact I believe that the project started with official sanction - and the quality of the research
and of the writing are excellent throughout. Erik has taken a lot of time and care over this work. Although press and internet interviews and features are extensively quoted, Erik
has also gone to the effort of tracking down and interviewing no less than nineteen people involved in John's racing career and even before he started to race - for
example, his high school football coach.
The biography is very well-illustrated with excellent action and portrait pictures on just about every page, a large number of the pictures supplied by Jon Asher who
shares billing with Erik on the front cover. If I had a single criticism of this book it would be that there are not enough pictures from John's earliest racing days and none
at all from his childhood and teenage years. The latter is doubtless down to the biography's unofficial status, which probably gave Erik no choice in the matter, and I
should stress that this is only a minor criticism and nothing which should stop the Force fan from heading for the book shop.

PMR, choose your weapons!
25th February: Paul Marston Racing
have had a busy off-season but still have plenty to do as the UK National Championship season approaches, says Paul Marston.
"Drag Race Engineering's first turn-key doorslammer is one hundred per cent finished and is due to make its début at this weekend's Xtreme
Wheels International", says Paul. "Proprietor Gary Springford is more than happy and we can confirm that Gary will be at the show to answer any
questions the public may have regarding this truly unique racecar. The Dodge Raider will not hit the track prior to the show so this will be your very
first chance to see it in the flesh.
"The Whoopass Monza has been the reciepient of some more paintwork to repair where the new fibreglass had settled, then received its new
artwork, yes it is very bright and yes it is very colourful. I am very excited about getting the Monza back on track. I bought the Monza because I believed
it had great unfulfilled potential, but the package would need work. Through all of last year everyone at PMR worked real hard on the combination going
through each system until we were happy. Even on such a small and already competitive race car we found that by being meticulous a whole bunch of areas
could be improved on. We documented all of our runs over the season and when you look at your notes and review all the video footage you can really learn
a lot.
"Over the winter break we feel we have made some good progress, improving the driveability, the power from the motor should show some good results,
plus the revised suspension geometry should enable us to control the hit off of the start line much more effectively based on last season. Plus as a double
bonus for me it looks real likely that I might be sharing driving duties with Dave 'The Racing Snake' Catton. Personally I am really looking forward to that
part as I have not had the opportunity to drive the Whoopass Monza in competition before.
©Eurodragster.com
"The PT Bruiser is nearly done. It would have been finished late last year but for my last-minute trip to stay with Edmund Richardson in Tennessee. With
most of the major fabrication done and just some plumbing and fitting to be finished, it looks like it's pretty close but you never can tell: finishing it is one
thing, but getting it running right is another ballgame entirely. With the Top Sportsman Doorslammer Class set to run in demonstration only for the 2006
season, it is looking quite likely that this is where the Bruiser will be heading. The class will suit our programme perfectly.
"The Insanity Vega is patiently awaiting its winter upgrades, of which there are quite a few. At this point I must also introduce another recently-joined
member of the Paul Marston Racing crew: Mark Jones who will become a regular sight at Santa Pod and Shakespeare County Raceway, licencing in the
Insanity Vega and later in the season competing in the Vega as well. Mark will be a welcome addition to the driving squad which now includes all of our
drivers from 2005 - Dave Catton, Tethys, Gary Springford, Mick Howling - and of course my return for a full season.
"Adding to this, we will provisionally be joined by John Everitt in the awesome all-conquering Alien altered and PMR Drag Race School graduate
Steve Bolton in his freshly-imported Plymouth Scamp, which is currently at Drag Race Engineering receiving the finishing touches to its Big Block Chevy
as well as work on the cage. These cars together with the PT Bruiser, Grumpy's Dodge, 100% Whoopass Monza, Hulk Shogun and the
Insanity Vega, are shaping up 2006 to be our best year yet."

Clancy to PMR's rescue.
24th February: Paul Marston
has been in touch to express his heartfelt thanks to fellow Super Gas Competitor Brendan Clancy and his Dublin-Up team for lending PMR
a trailer to transport Drag Race Engineering's new Dodge Raider to this weekend's Xtreme Wheels International.
"Paul Marston Racing was unfortunately the victim of trailer theft last week, when our trusty ex-Spencer Tramm four-wheel open car trailer was stolen",
says Paul. "It's nearly the start of the race season and this is the time when they start to go missing. It was parked up on Wednesday evening and was gone
by Thursday lunchtime. It was double-clamped in a private yard at Noak Hill, Brentwood, Essex but that was obviously not enough.
It's the silver four-wheel trailer on which everyone has seen us move our race cars Grumpy's Dodge, Whoopass and Insanity
past few years. It's quite big and has a spare wheel bolted to the side, we always left it looking a little scruffy on purpose to make it less desirable.
Obviously some thieves are not that fussy!
©Eurodragster.com
"It goes without saying that anyone who is offered a trailer or hears of a trailer for sale under suspicious circumstances then please let us or the police know.
If anyone has a Trailer for sale then please contact us on 07831 650230 as we will need to replace ours if it is not recovered. Once again thanks to Brendan
Clancy for doing the decent thing and offering his trailer so that we could make the Xtreme Wheels show this coming weekend."

Dave Beck has proudly announced a new product for
the 2006 season. Pro Stock Extreme gives anyone the opportunity to ride a Championship-standard Pro Stock Bike
with performance to match the rider's experience and budget.
The mid seven-second bike was used by Tony Clark to win the 2004 ACU Championship and has been rebuilt end to end by Dave Beck, and has
a completely fresh 1570 cc motor with five-speed auto transmission. Dave Beck Racing can also offer race weekend rentals of Dave's 7.2-second
1640 cc motor or the 7.16-second record-setting 1750 cc motor. The bike carries a Racepak computer, enabling each run's data to be reviewed
with Dave.

The bike is available for all ACU and UEM Championship rounds and any Run What You Brung or Test Days. The machine will be delivered to the
track race-ready. For more details contact Stephen Moon at

the season is almost upon us and that bookings are already being taken.
Even Sweeter FA.
23rd February: UK Pro ET and Super Gas racer Ron Bartlett has been in touch with the latest
news from the workshop of the flying Sweet FA Anglia, which is set to fly even more this year.
"The car is to be repainted on 4th March, the same colour -ish!", says Ron. "Frank Griffin, who built the car, has fitted wheelie bars. My Crew Chief is still Simon
Eykyn but Tush is understandably going to help The Mob Fuel Altered team as his lad Jim will be driving the car. Thanks to Tush for his help over the last
two years and good luck to the both Jim and Tush for this coming season. Fortunately Frank's son Cliff is stepping in for this year and will hopefully give me that
extra push for the National Championship.
©Eurodragster.com
"We will be using the gas - hence the wheelie bars - at certain events this year to get us into the eights. Cliff's experience as driver/builder should keep me focused.
"Thanks to Frank Griffin, Al O'Connor, Bob Lees, Nick Davies and Rob Loaring at ICE Automotive, and Geof Hauser and Ray Eldred at Hauser Race Cars."

Wright copes with the Chaos.
22nd February: The UK's Nostalgia Fuel Altered
Association is pleased to announce that the 2006 driver of Chaos, the new stretched Topolino Fuel Altered, is
a man who has served the sport in many ways over a long period - John Wright, writes Lawrie Gatehouse.
John got the bug in the late sixties and by the early 1970s started competing with Vendetta, a blown Jag-powered
Anglia. Soon after, the Alan Herridge-built Age Machine front-engined dragster was purchased from Ollie Burn and
re-named Rainmaker. This was quickly followed by the rear engined Rainmaker II in 1976, which was
campaigned for a year or so, until John prematurely retired from the sport due to other commitments.
In 1984, the bug caught again and having purchased parts of the original Vendetta, John combined it with the
ex-Brian Mondey Optimist from Ian Witham and raced again for a while under the Strip Lightning name.
John was an early member of the newly formed RAC Drag Racing Committee in 1985 and for seven years helped to set
up the construction rules and race licence procedures. During this time, with a stint as Track Manager, John helped
Anthony Hodges establish the Hot Rod Drags and Bulldog Bash events at Avon Park. As if that wasn't enough, he also
published Fire-Up magazine with Jeremy Cookson as Editor, progressing it from an MDRC periodical into European
coverage with special features from the USA and Australia.
John moved upwards into Top Fuel in 1990, working as the clutch technician on the Vallance and Lovett McGee car,
setting the scene for the future. In 1991, John achieved the distinction of being joint promoter with Ron Clark
of the highly acclaimed Pro Comp Classic event at Avon Park.
A Fuel Altered test driver spell with the then-new Mob '23 T followed in 1992, before moving in 1993 to Top
Fuel work with the Viveca Averstedt Top Fuel Dragster. The Averstedts held a top three position in the FIA European
Top Fuel Championship over the next four years in which John played his part, culminating in Viveca's best-ever pass
of 4.88/271 in the USA in 1998, a full five years before it was replicated in Europe.
During this period, John assisted with Al Jackson's move from Alchohol to Fuel Funny Car, and giving input to Smax
Smith, the CBD Team and Tony Betts in his Fuel Flopper. In 2001, John worked on the Canto Consultancy Top Methanol
Dragster with Darryl Bradford driving and then he decided it was time to set up his own Top Fuel Team. The Wildside
Racing Top Fuel rail duly appeared in 2002, entering the British rounds of the FIA Championship, as well as promoting
the profile of the sport with appearances at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Autosport International and the Birmingham
Science Museum.
In 2005, after huge personal investment and with backing from Lee Child, John Woolfe Racing, Royal Purple and Flint
Insurance, the car was uprated and showcased at Shakespeare County events. John believed that "If you can't win, be
spectacular" and the resulting pictures of the team's misfortunes went worldwide. John and his ever-supportive wife,
Lesley, realised that the cost, complexity and commitment needed to be competitive in Top Fuel Racing as it is today,
was getting beyond the means of privateers without substantial sponsorship support and reluctantly decided to sell
their operation - but with a notion of doing 'something different', such that they could still enjoy the sport.
Subsequent to this decision and in short order, Lawrie Gatehouse approached John and Lesley to see if John was
interested in driving Chaos, the new AA/FA being constructed to run in the growing NFAA. The answer was
a resounding Yes - in about one second flat!
It is expected that Chaos will appear at the Easter Thunderball for the first time and the team are all
looking forward to some entertaining action.

Lawrie would like to thank Andy Barrack for the above biography which was condensed from unpublished data.

"Dad is itching to get to work again on his old skool race car for the 2006 RWYB season", says Jerry Cookson.
"When you have been locked in this crazy sport of ours for over forty years - Dad appeared with his own BMC-powered
dragster at the third-ever Santa Pod meeting in 1966 - you don't really care when you reach milestones in your
mid-seventies, all you want to do is get back behind the wheel and start tinkering.

ACW wins SEUK.
21st February: American Car World magazine has announced that it will
be the magazine for fans of the Street Eliminator UK series to check out the
2006 action. ACW will publish round-by-round coverage of Europe's
quickest and fastest Street Car Championship, covering the
qualifying, street cruise and the exciting eliminations.
A drag racing enthusiast, ACW editor Rich Nicholls helped the Street Eliminator
series get off the ground with the originator Tim Baggaley over ten
years ago. Having followed it ever since, Rich had this to say:
©Eurodragster.com
"Street Eliminator is the pinnacle of street car racing in Europe -
there is nothing which says 'Street' more than that class, thanks to
the rules on tyres, pump fuel and, most importantly, the cruise out
on public roads. I'm proud to have ACW as a Street Eliminator
associate sponsor and I'm looking forward to seeing the magazine logo
on the sides of the cars. This season looks like being a great one
for the Championship, so I wish all competitors well and I'm
confident the ACW coverage will do the series credit."

20th February: Andy Carter's
B&Q Power Tools Top Fuel Dragster will make a welcome return to London's Alexandra Palace this weekend (25th-26th) for the Xtreme Wheels
International Show.
The show, now in its third year, will once again see twice FIA European Top Fuel Champion Andy and the Super Crew introducing London's
public to the 7000 bhp monster. Capable of speeds in excess of 300 mph and covering a quarter mile in just four seconds, the car will take pride
of place in the Great Hall, along with the team's race transporter.
"It's great to have been invited back to this hugely popular show for the third year running", says Andy Carter. "Having recently attended the Autosport
Show, we see these events as a great opportunity to spend time with our many fans who we don't always get to chat to at the races. It's also a fantastic stage to
introduce new people to this great sport of ours, many of whom have never seen anything like the B&Q Power Tools dragster before!"
Team merchandise will be on sale from the team's stand including the latest T-Shirts, posters and hero cards, as well as a chance to buy Lucas Oils
and Wynn's cleaning products. Andy will be on hand throughout the event to sign autographs and give visitors a first-hand account of what it is like to

"Jan was the constructor of the Top Fuel Drag Bikes for Henk Vink's Big Spender Racing Team", says Ima. "Mike did some testing at Drachten
on a very old Suzuki bike, and went real fast. After that Jan decided to build a new Funny Bike for Mike - 'Funnybike Mike' from now on. The bike is
not finished yet, but has to be ready in April because they want to do the first testing of the bike at Santa Pod."
Ima has promised to keep us up-to-date with the bike's progress.

my white shovelnose Pop Straightline Maniac which crashed at the top end at the APIRA Test and Tune at
Shakespeare County Raceway in April 2002. Jacko filmed this crash and sent me a copy but I've lost that so if Jacko
or anyone else has video then please let me know.
"Lo and behold, twelve weeks later we had top end crash number two, John Parkinson's car had a mechanical fault at the finish

grateful.

Grumpy goes back to school.
17th February: UK Pro Stock Bike racer Paul Watson of Eurodragster.com Home and News sponsor
DynoSpeed Developments recently returned
from Gainesville where he attended Frank Hawley's Drag Racing School. Paul found himself in good company
as amongst the students in his class were NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle racers Angelle Sampey and Antron Brown
and AMA/Prostar standout Jimmy Randolph, all under the tutelage of the legendary George Bryce of Star Racing and
assistant instructor Chip Ellis.
"The track at Gainesville is great and the people are friendly", Paul told Eurodragster.com. "The school bikes were older-style
Kosmans with 250 bhp 1500 cc motors and manual gearbox. Quite basic compared with today's Pro Stock Bikes, but don't be fooled, these are fast bikes: both
Angelle and Antron both ran 7.6s, awesome when you think that you gain two tenths with an auto box it makes you wonder why we are not quicker."
©Eurodragster.com
Paul said that the lessons were well-structured and well-taught, helping both novices and advanced riders. "I saw improvement made by everyone, novice and
Pro alike", he said. "There was always the personal touch from George Bryce who made sure that everyone enjoyed as well as learned. George and Chip Ellis were
faultless although Chip's English accent was more Dick Van Dyke and he did make me laugh!
"Both the classroom and on-track sessions were great. We
had two classroom sessions from Frank Hawley on the mental approach, anyone who goes should listen carefully. A very wise and knowledgeable man, he totally
changed my outlook on things. I wouldn't know where to begin describing what I learned. I just hope I can put it all to good use and that it reflects in my performances.
I would also have to say a special thank you to Antron Brown for all of his help, advice and encouragement."
Paul thinks that novices and seasoned racers can both benefit from a trip to Frank Hawley's School. "Leave your egos at home, go with an open mind and be a
sponge", he said. "If you have always wanted to ride a Pro Stock Bike that's the best way. Go for that reason alone, no matter what you ride I promise you will have
a great time, meet great people, ride a great bike, and be taught by a great instructor."
You can find out more about Frank Hawley's Drag Racing School at www.frankhawley.com.

Third time unlucky.
16th February: UK Comp Bike racer Nick Daniels would have every reason to become allergic
to the month of January after completing a hat-trick of misfortune, which has affected his 2006 racing plans.
"After having a great season last year and getting the ex-Paul Willis Suzuki running into the 8.3 and finally breaking the 160 mph barrier - and I understand
now why the lads warn you of the 'dip' in the right hand lane at SCR - I was looking forward to the closed season so I could drop on the bike and make
some well-thought-out improvements", says Shaggy. "Everything was well on schedule, with the plan being to have the bike on the dyno by March and
bed-in the new bits in on the strip by the end of the month. That was until January.
"After taking a couple of weeks out to stuff my face with turkey, buy presents for relatives I never see for the rest of the year, and drinking more Guinness
than I really want to remember, I reluctantly go back to work on a cold, damp January morning, whereupon I am called into the office
"for a word". Yep, you guessed it...I'm being made redundant! This in itself isn't that drastic, but this is the third January in succession!
"I think someone is try to tell me something, so I've decided to put my money where my mouth is and try and make real the pipe dream of having my own
little business (datacomms and structured networking). At least I can't make myself redundant next January! But unfortunately the time, effort and cost of
setting all of this up is going to eat into the allotted racing budget, and I've got to work hard at getting it off the ground and get some money coming in so
the racing is going to get a bit of a kicking.
©Eurodragster.com
"I'm going to try to run the bike much as time and funds will allow this year. But if any of the bike teams are short for crew at any of the meetings over the
season and need a hand I could be available to help - if I can't afford to race I still want to be at the strip! I'm house trained, have my own pit bike, fetch
bacon sarnies, and can make a great cup of tea! You can get in touch by E-Mail to

that the team are working on the 6.2-second Pro Mod pick-up for an indoor event at Globen's hockey arena.
"Freddy has twenty one metres to race and then has to try to stop before the wall", says Björn. Our money is on Freddy making it, but
only just. For more information check out Freddy's web site at www.fastfreddy.nu which

Keep Saturday Special.
16th February: Santa Pod Raceway's first Saturday Night Special of 2006 takes place this Saturday (18th) and Rick Cuthbert
of Trakbak Racing tells us that all are welcome for Run What You Brung, whether National Championship racer or daily driver, and that there are some
extra attractions.
"The Volkswagen Drag Racing Club is holding an Open Day at the Saturday Night Special", says Rick. "Everyone is welcome to talk to current members about
what it takes to become a drag racer. The VWDRC is one of the cheapest and most accessible ways into motorsport, and the current members will be on hand
all day and evening to discuss the road to racing and to run demos in their race cars.
©Eurodragster.com
"In addition, Martin Hill will be testing the Fireforce 3 Jet Funny Car, making regular runs throughout the day and night. Finally, Santa Pod's show Top Fueller
will display its new colours for the first time.
"The track is open from 9:00 to 21:00, track and weather conditions permitting, and normal Run What You Brung fees apply.
For more information see www.rwyb.com."
FIA Main Event pitting update.
15th February: It may seem a long way in the future, but these things have a habit of coming
up quicker than you expect, so Santa Pod Racers Club Secretary Paula Marshall has asked us to draw racers'
attention to new arrangements on pit access and team parking for the FIA Main Event at Santa Pod Raceway in
May. The new arrangements can be found on the Entry Forms page of the Santa Pod
Racers Club web site at www.eurodragster.com/sprc and should by read
by everyone intending to compete at that event.

Also on the Entry Forms page of the SPRC web site, the Easter Thunderball entry forms have been updated to
include the Wild Bunch, and minor changes have been made to the FIA Main Event Pro entry forms.
SE Drivers' Meeting details.
15th February: Further to yesterday's news item from Jon Webster, Street Eliminator Membership
Secretary Ann-Marie Lazenby has been in touch to confirm that the Street Eliminator Drivers' Meeting will take
place at 12:30 pm on Sunday 5th March at the Stafford Travel Inn on the southbound Stafford Services on the M6
map).
"Drivers who recorded points in the 2005 season, or who are already registered and paid up for the 2006 season, will be eligible to vote
on the structure of the class going forward", says Ann-Marie. "Other interested parties are of course also welcome to attend, although
space is limited in the meeting room and so places will be available on a first-come first-served basis."
©Eurodragster.com
Ann-Marie will send out letters today confirming drivers qualified to vote, along with directions to the hotel. Drivers too impatient
to wait for their letters to arrive can contact Ann-Marie by E-Mail at

Haslett's Charity success.
15th February: Regular Eurodragster.com readers will recall that UK Street Eliminator racer
Ron Haslett has been doing some fine work raising money for the Macmillan Cancer Fund, most recently by auctioning
passenger rides in his ten-second Mk III Cortina. Ron has been in touch to let us know how things are progressing
in the Insane Creations pit.
"Our charity passenger rides have done well", says Ron. "The first went for £250. The second is being auctioned at a black tie dinner by
Alan from Express Gearboxes who has looked after me for the last couple of years, and the third is being done with Classic Ford
magazine and will take place at their Show.
"I would like to say a big Thank You to my good friends at PMCC for their very kind donation of £165 which they raised through one of
the local cruises which they organise, and also to fellow racer Ray Comer for his kind donation."
©Eurodragster.com
Ron recently did a photo shoot for Classic Ford to tie in with the Macmillan passenger rides and the feature should be published very soon.
"We are still looking for people to help us out at the Classic Ford Weekend because the less we have to pay out, the more we can give to Macmillan",
he says. "At the moment the main help we are seeking is with nitrous fills, crash helments and neck braces". If you would like to help Ron and thereby
help the Macmillan Fund then you can contact him via his web site at
www.insanecreations.co.uk.
On the car front, Ron says that the engine is all back together and is to be dyno'd next week. "I'm not going to give you an estimated output as that is
like the one-armed fisherman", he says. "Once I have the actual figures I will let you know". Finally Ron has welcomed a new team member, Mark.
"Mark has been learning that nothing serious ever gets done, but he seems to be enjoying himself", says Ron.

SE meeting success.
14th February: Jon Webster of joint Eurodragster.com webcam sponsor
Webster Race Engineering
says that Sunday's meeting about the UK Street Eliminator class was a positive step forward and that another
meeting has been agreed to take things further.
"The informal meeting was held to try to establish a consensus to help move the class forward", says Jon. "It was encouraging to have almost thirty
people turn up. The meeting resulted in some strong and valid opinions.
©Eurodragster.com
"It was unanimously agreed that a more official meeting should be arranged to move towards forming an Association. A tentative date of 5th March was
agreed but is subject to availability of a venue. "Those who wish to attend should contact me by E-Mail at
jw@w-r-e.com or by Fax on 01933 315274. Please include any items which you feel are relevant
for inclusion on the agenda.

Gleeson Wright sponsorship winner.
14th February: Eurodragster.com Home and News sponsor Gleeson Wright Security have announced
that UK Super Gas racer Stuart Doignie has won the £1000 sponsorship recently offered via a
contest on Eurodragster.com.
"I gave all of the entries to my business partner Gary Gleeson for an unbiased opinion", said
Matthew Wright of Gleeson Wright Security. "Gary selected Stuart's entry on his submission. Stuart is a worthy
recipient of the Gleeson Wright Security sponsorship: a very nice guy and very well-mannered, and his family is
very pleasant."
©Eurodragster.com
In his tie-breaker, Stuart said that having spent twice the original budget for the car his wife Rachael was losing
patience and matching his expenditure pound for pound. "I have just told Rachael that I have won the sponsorship
and we have now cancelled the next session at Relate!", Stuart told Eurodragster.com. "I would like say thanks to
Matthew Wright and Gary Gleeson for their generosity, and I am looking forward to representing them during the 2006
season."
NHRA TV coverage available in UK.
14th February: Eurodragster.com reader James Welling has discovered that NHRA drag racing
is available on satellite broadcast to the UK if you are willing to put in a little effort and spend some money.
"A satellite company called Orbit includes one of the ESPN International channels, Orbit ESPN", says James. "This
is basically a hash-and-mash of ESPN and ESPN2. The schedules on Orbit's web site list NHRA qualifying and race
coverage as well as Inside Drag Racing.
©Eurodragster.com
"There are Orbit suppliers here in the UK who are listed on Orbit's web site at
www.orbit.net. The package includes the set-top box and a six
month viewing card which some to about £280. Also remember that you need a local satellite fitter to fit the 1- or 1.1-metre dish and other
small bits which costs about £400. Yes, it is quite expensive to set up, but once you do the monthly subscribtion will cost £25 a
month, that is quite good considering. You have to opt for the biggest channel package which is Mega. You still
get a few other channels, but this is a gateway for us die-hard UK NHRA fans!"
Web site updates.
14th February: FIA European Top Fuel Dragster Champion Lex Joon has again reported in from the USA to
bring us another entry in his Eurodragster.com Racer Blog. In this entry Lex tells us how he got involved in
Baca Family Racing's race day at Pomona on Sunday. You can read Lex's Blog by

Prize funds for National Championship classes are to be increased by two and a half per cent this season,
and then by two per cent per annum from 2007.
The rules regarding Late Entry have been changed.
The official closing date is three weeks before an event. The fee for late entry, at the Club's discretion, will now
be double the usual entry fee for that class. Entry is completely closed
one week before an event. The deadline for cancellation with return of entry fee is one week before an event.
FIA and FIM/UEM classes have their own entry deadline which is four weeks before an event.
2005 Santa Pod Racers Club Champions will receive free entry to the 2006 Easter Thunderball, FIA Main Event,
SPRC Summernationals, FIA European Finals, and UK National Finals. 2005 VWDRC Champions will receive free
entry to the 2006 Big Bang and the Bug Jam.
On-line race entry will be investigated for 2007.
10.50 Bike will not be contested at the 2006 FIA Main Event and 2006 FIA European Finals. 9.50 Bike will be contested
at the FIA events in 2006 but its inclusion at those events in 2007 will be reviewed.
The Extreme Performance bike weekend at
Santa Pod Raceway on Saturday-Sunday 16th-17th September will be a UK National Championship round for 9.50 Bike and 10.50 Bike.
There will also be an Invitational for other Bike classes at the Extreme Performance weekend unless the ACU
permit a full round to be held at this event.
The number of classes running at events is to be reviewed over the next few seasons. This is because of pit space
restrictions at both tracks, and because neither the timing systems at both Santa Pod and Shakespeare County Raceways,
nor any other timing system currently available, are able to handle the number of classes currently run.
If 10.50 Bike is unsupported again in 2006 then the class may be discontinued in 2007.
Street Eliminator is in the White Book for 2006 but will not be a UK National Championship class in 2006.
SE's National Championship status in future years is under discussion.
The Tech Committee will be asked to clarify the question of cars from Super classes which allow electronic devices
also running in ET classes which do not allow such devices, and also to rule on whether an air shifter is an
electronic device.
This year's first joint APIRA/SPRC Dinner Dance and Trophy Presentation was viewed as a success.
The quiet room was particularly appreciated by those wishing to talk away from the disco. Assuming availability then
next year's Dinner Dance will again be held at the Northampton Park Inn.

12th February: Santa Pod Raceway's former Chief Starter Stuart Bradbury has been in touch
to thank everyone who has contacted him about the British Drag Racing Hall of Fame whose first three inductees
were named at last weekend's joint APIRA/SPRC Dinner Dance and Trophy Presentation.
"I really appreciate everyone's comments" says Stuart, who was one of the driving forces behind the Hall of Fame. "A few others have to be mentioned: Darren Prentice,
Roger Gorringe, Phil Cottingham, Lesley Wright, Jerry Cookson, Phil Evans, Keith Bartlett, Tog, and most of all Ian Marshall as without Ian's help the Hall of Fame
would never have happened. Also thanks must go to Santa Pod Racers Cub for funding the awards, and Keith Bartlett and Santa Pod.

"The announcement on Saturday that a Drag Racing museum will be built at Santa Pod to house the Hall of Fame and no doubt cars and memorabilia is
the icing on the cake."

What sniffing Torco can lead to...
11th February: New UK Fuel Altered racer Tony Betts, who now owns Jim Seward's former
Harry the Spider, tells us that his Venom Racing team came about after the ex-Fuel FC team found
that after four years they had too much time on their hands.
"We were sitting around at the weekend with a bottle of Torco just rubbing it into our hands and smelling it", says Tony. "We heard that there may be a
complete Fuel Altered operation for sale and then the phone started to ring. The talk went along the lines of "If we all chipped in a bit then got some sponsors
it could possibly happen".
"We went to see the car and took some money just in case we could make a deal. That afternoon we were travelling back home with the truck, trailer and
car. The car has since been stripped checked and is in the process of being rebuilt. The body has gone to Ian Plumb at
Custom Art to be prepped ready for paint once the design has been approved."
©Eurodragster.com
Tony says that the Venom Racing team now realise what they had been missing all this time: "Cold weekends working on the car, constant pressure
to get the car finished, using parts of our brains that had gone dormant but most of all lots of cups of tea."
The altered has a number of sponsors with others not quite committed but Tony says that the team are working on them and that he will make an
announcement soon. Meanwhile the team are aiming to make the weekend before Easter to familiarise themselves with the car. "We're looking forward
to a great year of racing", says Tony.

Two-seater out in the cold.
10th February: Gordon Callin has been in touch having thawed out from a promotional event with
the De Palma-sponsored Two Seater Dragster earlier this week.
©Eurodragster.com
"Johan Hässler, my youngest daughter Nathalie and I took the two-seater to an outdoor event for Johan Grape and Svenska Volkswagen on
Monday and Wednesday", says Gordon. "We fired the car up a couple of times each day, and people had their picture taken with the car. There was only
one bad thing about the whole event and that was the weather - it snowed a lot (right) and it was about -5C on both days, so we had to put a lot of
anti-freeze in the cooling system and wear warm clothing. But Svenska Volkswagen, Johan Grape and the guests were happy."
Gordon tells us that his elder daughter Susanne is currently looking for sponsorship for Top Fuel Dragster for this season.

Bob Roberts of Eurodragster.com Home and News sponsor
Andy Robinson Race Cars has noticed a pattern
emerging in the Santa Pod Racers Club Best Looking Car award. Andy's own Studebaker, Gordon
Appleton's Camaro, Malcolm Francis' Grand Am and Danny Cockerill's '57 Chevy, all built by ARRC, have taken the last four titles.
"I think this at least proves that ARRC customers have good taste, as if we didn't know that already", says Bob.
...and here's the Catch.
10th February: Mark Newby has been in touch to tell us about a new product on offer from
Aerocatch which will be of use to doorslammer racers.
"Aerocatch has recently launched a new panel fastener that replaces the old and ugly 'quick release pin' type commonly used on doorslammer front ends, hoods or
boot lids", says Mark. "They are selling in droves to low-speed roundy-rounders, and are ideal for our full-bodied community. They look
good - much better than the old type - and moreover drivers and start line marshals will like them because they 'lock-safe' and offer a visible sign if
they aren't shut properly.
©Eurodragster.com
"Now, let me try and recall how many bonnets and boot lids I have seen come off doorslammers at the strip since I first went in 1972..."

Magnaflow comes to the UK.
10th February: Magnaflow, America's market-leading brand in the performance exhaust and hardware sector, has just
been launched into the UK market, giving UK-based American car owners a unique opportunity to buy specialist exhaust upgrades and hardware for their
vehicles.
Until now, the Magnaflow brand – endorsed by motor racing legend Mario Andretti – has only been available direct from stockists in America. But the
launch of Magnaflow UK has given Britain's American muscle car, sports utility vehicle and limousine owners a simple and affordable way of buying
components that have been specifically designed and manufactured for the American classic and modern markets.
Since Magnaflow UK launched, the company has worked tirelessly to give its customers the most comprehensive range of specialist American products
and currently stocks ninety per cent of the American vehicle cat-back systems listed in the Magnaflow range.
Products available through Magnaflow UK include exhausts, catalytic converters and other hardware. Each product carries a lifetime warranty and is
designed to provide the highest performance possible, featuring significantly enhanced horsepower and torque, enhanced looks, while at the same time
increasing a vehicle's fuel economy.
"The Magnaflow brand has always been huge in the US but American car owners in the UK have never had easy access to the products that were
designed specifically for their classic and modern cars", says Magnaflow UK Managing Director Paul Tomlinson. "By bringing the brand to the UK
as the exclusive suppliers, American car owners will now be able to get their hands on the same high-quality exhaust products which their counterparts
in the US thrive on – without having the expense of importing such components."
Magnaflow UK has launched a web site at www.magnaflowuk.com with details of
their product range and a list of authorised dealers.

Northern UK Chassis Day confirmed.
9th February: Further to our news item of 31st
January, UK Tech Inspector Geoff Martin has now confirmed that the Northern UK Chassis Day will be taking place.
©Eurodragster.com
"Mark Norton has arranged the Chassis Day for Saturday 4th March at Martin Hill's workshop in Fishlake,
South Yorkshire", says Geoff. "Inspections will begin at 10:00 am. Inspections take about forty minutes and four or five are pre-booked
so there are still some slots available in the afternoon."
If you have any queries or if you would like to book in then you can contact Mark Norton on 01865 400812 or mobile 07881 456314.
Enter Mr Spokehead.
9th February: UK Supertwin Fuel racer
Ian Turburville has proudly revealed his stunning new
bike Mr Spokehead, his Overkill-powered tribute to the late Jim McClure (right, click on
picture for another angle).
The Pro Fuel Harley - Pro Fuel denoting fuel-injected and no transmission - is the result of two years'
work and comes highly-specced featuring a 96" McClure/Puppet chassis, dual Furr fuel injectors, Zodiac front forks
and brakes, Custom Chrome front wheel and rotors, PM back wheel and rotor, carbon bodywork by Weekend Frame Company and Turboville,
Bentec clutch, jackshaft and primary, ART motor plates, Orangeburg and Jay Brake controls, Arias pistons, Romine cams, Waterman pump, genuine
Harley Davidson fender struts and handlebar clamp, Dyna ignition and 14" rear slick. The can will be well and truly tipped
with a nitro percentage of 98%.
Turbo tells us that Mr Spokehead should produce around 800 hp from the 160 ci motor. "My targets for this year are, realistically, to set at a low seven by the end of the
season", says Turbo. "That's the best scenario. Making power is not the issue, delivering it is! We have a mountain to climb learning-wise both in tuning
and riding this year but we will do our best. I will be aided by Brum and Dukes from Northants this year as I will be racing my former Crew Chief, Ian
'Rush' Carruthers, who will be competing on another beautiful bike out of our workshop!"
©Eurodragster.com
Having done the work on the bike, Turbo's main concern now is finding more sponsorship. "It all comes ome down to money in the end, and that end is all too
clearly in sight if we don't get minimal support from somewhere", he says. "My sponsors Red Line Oil, Rush Engineering, S&S Cycle, Custom Chrome, RST
Wheels, Zodiac, Fast Lane racing, Gates, Jims, Curbishley Automotive, Arias, Sprint Dampers and King Racing have been great over the years supplying
product, I really couldn't have contemplated this leap of faith otherwise, but we need help with spark plugs and the ever increasing entry costs etc. I aim to do
well enough in 2006 to attract a partner to enable me to compete in the UEM Championship next year."
Testing will start "As soon as the weather is warm enough and my giro comes through!"
Mr Mopar makes the track.
9th February: UK Outlaw Anglia racer John O'Sullivan ousted ninety per cent of the gremlins
from his Mr Mopar Pop at a chilly Santa Pod Raceway last week. Although John only got a
burnout under his belt, it felt great for him to get out on the track.
"The engine combination sounded awesome and didn't miss a beat", says Charlie Draper. "John took the burnout carefully, not wanting to over-rev it on
his first attempt, but after producing a good burnout - albeit a little out of shape - John found that he could not select reverse gear so he trundled down
the track taking the opportunity to punch the air shifters, checking out the feel and ease of both the gear change and the position of the shifters. It's one
thing trying them in the pits but it's a different thing on the track."
©Eurodragster.com
Back in the pits the engine was checked over and found to be clean and the reverser problem was solved although not in time for another run.
The plan is to test again later this month after the car returns from baselining at Webster Race Engineering this weekend and then to attend
as many Run What You Brungs as possible. "I want to get more track time both on the track and in the pits, so that the team and I can get more
and more comfortable with the car and hopefully be marginally ready for the first Outlaw Anglia race!", says John.
Smith has a new Plan.
9th February: UK Wild Bunch racer Tony Smith will be cutting back on his racing schedule this
season as he puts together a new chassis for his Cunning Plan
altered.
"After getting my chassis checked at the end of last year, it looked like I only needed to make a few modifications
to get it to MSA spec for this season, but after stripping the car down and ordering what was needed, it turns out
to be a lot bigger job than expected", says Tony. "I am planning to build a new chassis during this year anyway, so
I have decided to put my effort, time and money into this and not run at any MSA events this year. This will also
free up a lot of the other events, which we can use to develop the engine."
©Eurodragster.com
With the help of Alan of sponsor Newgate (Newark) Ltd, Tony is ordering spares. "I am about to purchase a new camshaft
kit, complete with valves, springs and all else that is needed", he says. "This will I hope let the engine rev more
without the worry of dropping valves as it has done in the past. Hopefully at the end of the year I will be able to
transfer the engine and box into the new chassis ready for the 2007 season.
"I would like also to thank Tuneup Autospares and Tonypandy Motors for their continued support, also Anthony of
Sovereign Services who will be supplying the tube, workshop space and tools to build the new chassis."
Swift snippets.
9th February: Pennine Drag Racing Club Chair Alan Perkins says that this Saturday (11th) is the deadline to
book tickets for the PDRC Nite of Champions Dinner Dance on 25th February. "The event is to be held for a second year at the Cedar Court in Huddersfield
with the PDRC AGM at 2:00 pm", says Alan. "The evening will feature a fantastic meal, presentations and a live band. Tickets are available for £25 from Marjorie
Lyon on 01405 812637. For discounted accommodation call the Cedar Court direct on 01422 314000.

Andersens and Nilsson form TF team.
8th February: Denmark's Per and Karsten Andersen have acquired a Top Fuel Dragster from US racer Doug Herbert and have
teamed up with multiple NDRS Bilsport Pro Modified Champion
Håkan Nilsson to contest the 2006 FIA European Top Fuel Dragster Championship with
sponsorship from Veidec and Landmeco. The Top Fueller will be arriving at Per and Karsten's workshop in March and will be taken to Santa Pod Raceway for
Håkan to licence as soon as it is ready. Håkan has also sold his Camaro Pro Mod to an American racer.
"Last year we couldn't decide what to do so we ran a few Pro Mod races with the same stuff as 2004", says Håkan. "We were looking at a blown-alcohol
Pro Mod or Top Fuel. We had spoken to Per and Karsten some time before but they weren't interested, but then they called back and we made up our minds
and it all started to come together in November. I had planned to keep the Camaro and run a couple of events, but then I got an E-Mail from a guy in the USA who
wanted to buy it. It was kind of fun selling a car in that direction!"
Håkan is a little wistful to have sold the Camaro. "We have been in Pro Mod since the class was born and it has given us many
nice memories", he says. "To be part of the technical development from extreme street racers when we started to the
advanced race cars of today has been very challenging. But after five Championships we wanted to move on."
Per and Karsten Andersen have been in motorsport for twenty years and in Top Fuel for the last ten years, firstly
with Jens Nybo, then Kim Reymond and latterly Lorentzon and Möller Racing. Over the years they have claimed
three European Championship titles and numerous event wins and European records. On top of this they have a long
record of technical innovations and solutions, the latest being the portable traction tester which several top NHRA
teams now use.
"Per and Karsten have been racing with other teams but they wanted to run their own operation and have more of an active part", says Håkan. "I had got
friendly with Kim Reymond and I saw how special Per and Karsten are, so I am very happy to have the chance to race with them. Every one of my Pro Mod crew
is coming with me, and some of Per and Karsten's friends. We will have four Danes and five Swedes. The Danish crew has a good reputation in
the pits as the fastest crew in between rounds and our intention is that our new team will be even quicker.
"I've seen Top Fuel become more and more competitive. A lot of teams have the money to run and not just show up. I am looking forward to some side-by-side
racing and the Danes want to go full throttle and not just for show - they have the right attitude! With all the experience in this team we feel that
we have the strength to compete for the Championship in our first season - I see my chances of winning as just as good
as for the other top driver."
©Eurodragster.com
Håkan will upgrade his licence at Santa Pod and this could take place as early as the Easter Thunderball. "As
soon as the car is ready we will take it to England", he says. "Kjell Pettersson of Santa Pod told us that there will be plenty of opportunities to run. We have the
budget now to do a full year's full-throttle racing on the FIA Tour, so if we get any additional money then we will be testing."
The dragster will be carrying sponsorshop from Håkan's longtime sponsor
Veidec and Landmeco. "Veidec executive
Richard Pålsson is a great entrepreneur who fully understands the market value of motorsport and takes the
opportunity to use it", says Håkan. "Besides drag racing he supports the Swedish Touring Car Championship
and Motorcycle Road Racing. It is a great privilege to work with Veidec."
The design (courtesy and ©Lars Svensson, click on picture for large version) and paint are by top Swedish
artist Lars 'Löörs' Svensson of Sweden who has not only designed many of Europe's best-looking race cars but
also won a paint scheme contest 1997 to design for Richard Petty's NASCAR team.
Håkan says that he is always a little nervous but that the closer his new driving career comes the more excited he gets. He will have the best possible tuition as
he enters Top Fuel. "Kim Reymond will be coaching me through the licencing and through my first race", he says. "I have spoken to a lot of Top Fuel drivers and they
all say that they think driving a Pro Mod is more difficult than Top Fuel so they don't think I'll have a problem."
Editor's note: Thanks to Stefan Boman for his contributions to this news item.
More development at Meca.
8th February: Christer Håård, President of
Skånes Racers Ideella Förening, tells us that
Malmö's Meca Raceway is now accepting on-line entries for all events in 2006. In addition, the
eighth-mile facility is undergoing still more improvements for this season.
"Entry is now open for all Meca Raceway events from the Pro Test and Tune in May to the Winter Nationals NDRS Finals
and the TOYO Tires Dragracing Series North v South shootout in September!", says Christer. "Bilingual registration takes place at
www.srif.se/anmalan.htm. Registration is completely
automated and the entry list is constantly updated.
©Eurodragster.com
"The new developments at Meca Raceway for the 2006 season are:
- The pit area is being widened by five metres and this will enable us to accept another twenty five teams with
large trailers
- The pit area is also being marked into a grid (like a parking lot) which will give the teams far better pit
space options. Before the race, teams will receive an E-Mail with a map with their pit space pre marked. Just drive
in and park in your space.
- The entire pit area will also be permanently connected to electrical network with outlets every fifty metres.
The options are 8A or 16A.
- Larger stands for the spectators
- We are looking at producing timeslips via SMS and this will hopefully be finished by the start of the season
- Radio Frequency Identification chips will identify each racer in the improved timing system. The small
inexpensive RFID chips will relieve some of the tiresome work in the timing tower! Hopefully we will have
this technique ready before mid-season
- New showers for teams will be ready in time for Test and Tune in May 2006
"That's just part of the projects going on at Meca in the 2006 pre-season."
Newbury sparks interest.
8th February: The MCN London Motorcycle Show 2006 at Alexandra Palace was a great success for Martin Newbury's
Psycle Workz Pro Stock Bike, says Cindy Newbury.
"The weather was fine, and increased attendance kept us really busy over the nine days, with hundreds of people asking about the bike and what we do", says
Cindy. "At one point we counted over 150 people taking photos of the bike in one hour, and the bike also attracted the interest of Ron and Leon Haslam, and
other companies exhibiting at the show, with a few advertising deals being made for both of the bikes in the Psycle Workz Team.
©Eurodragster.com
"MCN were amazed at the bike, and even used it for the first photo shoot with Kate Hunter, one of the 2006 MCN Babes (right).
"All in all it was a brilliant show. We met up with a great number of people who had not really been interested in drag racing before who are now going to give
it a try, and others who used to go who said that we had sparked a new interest in the sport."

Dinner Dance thanks.
8th February: The UK's annual Dinner Dances keep going from strength to strength, and this year's joint APIRA/SPRC
event was certainly no exception, says our good friend Libby Mottershead.
"It goes without saying that all involved in presenting a function (there's that new word again, Christer) such as this has the interests of the racers at heart", says
Libby. "Paul Somerville quite rightly summed it up when he said "Those who don't want to listen to the speakers should leave the room" - well said
Paul from the Queen of Shush herself! It's great to see the racers letting loose for the evening and enjoying themselves out of race suits (you know who
you are Sandy), meeting old friends (Hi Ann and Mark) and new: thanks to Jon Morton, Marci and crew for their hospitality (great paintjob) and
I've never seen Geof Hauser so loose.
©Eurodragster.com
"Most of all many thanks to Tog and Sharkman for a wonderful evening on the 'Born To Run' table and to the company we shared - Steve and Pat Talbot, Roger
Gorringe, Christer Abrahamson, Lee and Emma Child, and Tog who made me cry (No, I didn't correct Libby's grammar - Ed). As always I loved very
minute of it. It keeps getting better and better."
Andy Thetford of Mick Payne's Artful Dodger Super Pro ET team agrees. "I would just like to thank everyone who helped put on a great
night at the inaugural APIRA/SPRC Dinner Dance", says Andy. "Congratulations to all of the winners and nominees. What a great evening, I just managed to hit
the hay at 4:30am on Sunday. Can't really say much more than that, but it would appear that there were just one or two sore heads at breakfast! They must have
had a good evening as well."
Joon writes first Racer Blog.
7th February: Today Eurodragster.com is very proud to present Europe's first Racer Blog,
written by 2005 FIA European Top Fuel Dragster Champion Lex Joon. Lex approached Eurodragster.com to offer a
weekly insight into the life of the MPM Top Fuel team and we were very pleased to accept his kind proposal. When
we asked that the Blog should be written by Lex himself and not a PR person, Lex was very happy to guarantee it:
"I can't afford a PR person!" was his reply. Simon has taken on the Blog Editor rôle and is working
closely with Lex.

Back to the future!
7th February: After several months of discussion, a number of current UK drag race teams have agreed to
field nostalgia-style Nitro Funny Cars in 2008, says Nick Davies of Eurodragster.com Main Sponsor
ICE Automotive.
"With the blessing of both Phil Evans, the Chairman of the Drag Racing Tech Committee, and the promotion team at Santa Pod Raceway,
teams led by current Super Modified champion Graham Ellis, Top Fuel and Street Eliminator racer and builder Jon Webster, and blown altered
converts Nick Davies, Rob Loaring and Nigel King will start constructing cars to the precise technical regulations of the US Goodguys Association
for its booming AA/FC Eliminator", says Nick. "Using body styles from between 1965 and 1979 (picture courtesy and ©Mark Gredzinski),
period engine and drivetrain technology, and current safety standards with input from the US-based Goodguys tech body, the VRA, the package looks
as safe and affordable as nitro racing can be.
©Eurodragster.com
"Current ET and speed marks are owned in the US by 2005 Champion, Larry Pettit in George Doty's '71 Mustang at 5.92 and 242 mph.
"The class will be the subject of a Tech Committee meeting later this year and any interested parties can contact either Jon Webster at Webster
Race Engine on 01933 315236 or Rob Loaring at ICE Automotive on 01327 858992. Technical regulations are available at

this good", says DJ. "The car will first be on display at Xtreme Wheels on 25th - 26th February". DJ adds that SPR have taken the precaution of drilling holes in
engine components so that they are not worth stealing.

Wells getting behind.
7th February: UK Super Street racer Steve
Wells says that Team Orange are behind with their preparations on the fan-favourite Ford Pop pick-up.
"Our new tow vehicle/camper is only half built, although it does have some of the essentials like a tool area and awning for the Pop", says Steve.
"Having blown a hole in the 4.5 block last year, the new 4.8 litre Rover V8 is still only a bare block due to a delay in the manufacture and shipping of
pistons from the USA. The new engine will be run in conjunction with the CryO2 system which we successfully tested at the end of last year. Further
development should hopefully see us deeper into the nines.
©Eurodragster.com
"The good news is that one of our sponsors, Cam Auto Developments Ltd, are continuing their support for the new season. As well as selling heat
management equipment such as exhaust wrap and CryO2 systems at www.exhaustwrapshop.com, they have expanded into race hoses with a new
site at www.racehoseshop.com: both sites are worth a visit.

A big Get Well Soon to our good friend Pete Kellett, father of UK Junior Dragster racer Joe, who was taken
ill and had to go into hospital on Sunday. We were very pleased to hear from Libby Mottershead just as we went to post
this update that Pete has been allowed home and that he is taking it nice and easy.
...and the Crew Chief goes quiet.
7th February: 2005 UK Street Eliminator Champion Colin Lazenby says that the award of
the James Edgar Memorial Trophy at Saturday's joint APIRA/SPRC Dinner Dance almost rendered his Crew Chief Luke
Robinson speechless.
"It's fair to say Luke was genuinely surprised when the award was announced", says Colin. "I'd swear he was numb almost to the point of speechlessness - I
said almost! This award is made even more prestigious by the other high-profile Crew Chief nominees in the same category. There have been some big names
listed in the past winners too.
"For Luke, it represents a once in a lifetime achievement. For the team, and the Street Eliminator class as a whole, it just goes to show how much respect the
class has earned amongst other drag racers - and Eurodragster readers. It's just brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Many thanks to all those who voted for him."
©Eurodragster.com
Colin has asked us to remind present, past and prospective Street Eliminator racers about the meeting to be held at 11:00 am this Sunday (12th
February) at Webster Race Engineering in Rushden. "Any racers intending to race in Street Eliminator in 2006/7 should attend", says Colin.
"Early participation in class decision-making should provide everyone with continuity in SE. Whilst I am unable to attend the meeting in person, I spoke
with Jon at some length on Saturday evening, and I'm naturally tempted to go, but it's simply not practical for us. Hopefully the meeting will generate a lively
and positive exchange of views. Those who can attend should.
"There are now fifteen Street Eliminator competitors already registered for the 2006 season, with more than half of these being new cars. This includes several
past competitors who are returning to the class following something of a sabbatical - one thing is for sure, they'll all be made to feel welcome in what has become
one of the friendliest classes in drag racing."
Two-Celicas Gibbs.
7th February: UK Super Pro ET racer Vince Gibbs says that he was very honoured to receive
the Santa Pod Racers Club Most Promising Newcomer Award on Saturday night.
"It was an honour to be nominated in the first place but to then win the award bowled me over", says Vince. "I am still grinning from ear to ear. I was equally
pleased to collect the runner-up trophy for the SPRC Super Pro ET Championship on behalf of the Sanity Assassin team. A huge congratulations has
to go to Ray Eldred who built, owns and develops the car. It is a riot to drive, even though for the first second all you can see is the sky.
I also have to say that without the efforts of Joe, Bez and my son Sebastian none of this would have been possible"
©Eurodragster.com
Vince will continue to drive Ray's eight-second Toyota Celica this season and also plans to bring out his own car at some events. "Funnily enough, my car is
also a '77 liftback Toyota Celica with a Small block Chevy", says Vince. "With the help of a new Pro Shot Fogger kit I hope to improve my best time from 9.3
to sneak into the eights, so I am really looking forward to an exciting year in the Celicas. Perhaps I should be re-named similar to John 'Two Jags' Prescott."
Gorringe: You're the best.
7th February: Another stunned trophy recipient on Saturday night was our good friend, long-standing
photo-journalist Roger Gorringe who was presented with the Alex Brachtvogel Memorial Trophy in recognition of his
many years of service to the sport (right). Roger has been in touch to thank Santa Pod Racers Club for presenting him with
the trophy.
"This award is something of which I will be immensely proud and I will continue my involvement for as long as I can contribute", says Roger. "I'm afraid that I was so shocked
that I do not really remember much after my name was announced. I cannot recollect the walk to or from the stage area or what anyone said. I think I muttered
something (hopefully a Thank You) to Geoff Martin but was at a total loss of what to say or do.
©Eurodragster.com
"Many friends came up to offer congratulations afterwards and I have received numerous compliments since, all I could say was how stunned I was!
"Drag racing is the best sport and has progressed incredibly in its professionalism, especially of late, but racers and officials have remained the same
dedicated, warm and friendly people throughout. I am glad to be associated with the best."
Web site updates.
7th February: Robin Jackson of Eurodragster.com Home and News page sponsor
Blueprints For Travel has been in touch to let us know that the Trip to America web site at
www.trip2america.co.uk has been updated
with a second photo gallery featuring images from the files of Racers Edge Photography. "The web site has attracted substantial traffic
over the past month - many visiting via the links on Eurodragster.com - and the tour operator Trailfinders reports bookings beginning to flow in for
the October/November trip", says Robin.

Nice pair.
6th February: During the off-season it is common for drag racing web sites around the globe
to publish spy pictures of new vehicles or new paint, but needless to say here at Eurodragster.com we have no need
to stoop to espionage (Yet - Ed) as we have been fortunate enough to receive shots of a new bike under
construction and new paint on an existing race car:
On the left is the frame of the 2006 Jones and Friend Comp Bike, the new mount of 2005 ACU UK Comp Bike Champion
Gary Jones, in a picture kindly supplied by Dave Friend (click on picture for large shot from another angle).
The new frame will tote the existing alcohol-burning Suzuki 1428 EFI blowthrough turbo engine which powered Gary to new
Personal Bests on just about every outing last year. Dave tells us that the next job is to mould the bodywork.

Hours after the SPRC's 2005 Best Looking Car trophy was presented, we received the shot on the right showing what
must be the first candidate for the 2006 award: UK Super Comp and Super Gas racer Jon Morton's Camaro in its beautiful new
colours (click on picture for large version). The new paintjob was designed by Neil Melliard of Prosign; Neil
applied the House of Kolor paint and graphics whilst
RW Masters of Littlehampton prepared and lacquered the car.
"I am very pleased indeed with the way the car has turned out", Mort told Eurodragster.com.

6th February: Avon Park International Racers Association and Shakespeare County
Raceway marshals are reminded that they are required to attend a marshals' meeting at 11:00 this Saturday,
11th February, in the marshals' hut at Shakespeare County Raceway. "Please don't forget to bring your photos for your 2006
pass", says Race Director Ozzy Ewing. "If you cannot attend this meeting please inform Wendy Talbot and send her your photos by post."
The confirmed ACU UK and FIM/UEM European Drag Bike Championship dates are now available on the King Racing web site at
www.kingracing.com. The proposed Hungarian round of the FIM/UEM Championship does
not appear on this calendar, and there will not be a round at Gardermoen in 2006 as the permit application was made too late.
UK Nostalgia Fuel Altered Association team Bennett Racing have added sponsorship from
JP Exhausts. "JP Exhausts were established in 1973 and over the last thirty years
have made stainless steel exhausts for practically every vehicle ever made", says Luke Bennett. "Jigs are set up for all of their manifolds and stainless
steel exhausts so that they can manufacture parts and despatch them by courier. JP Exhausts can deliver exhaust systems anywhere in
the UK, Europe, or the rest of the world."

UK Outlaw Anglia racer Simon Barlow and the Orange Pop crew were delighted to win the
Iris Page Memorial Trophy, says team member Jason Yates. "We had a good first competitive year
running twelves and finishing in the 10.3s, and winning the trophy rounded off the good season", says
Jay. "Thanks to everyone who voted for us, and thanks to Wendy Talbot for inviting us to the Dinner
Dance. It means so much to the team to win such a special award. Roll on 1st-2nd April!"
Paul Somerville, Crew Chief for UK Super Comp Champion Chris Johnson, writes to thank all those involved
with Saturday's first joint APIRA/UK Dinner Dance. "It was a fantastic achievement considering the numbers involved", says Paul.
"I thought the change of hotel venue was an improvement, with somewhere for those who wished just to chat, and the staff were efficient and friendly.
The only down point was the very rude and ignorant people who persisted in talking through the awards and speeches. If they did not wish to hear
people speak then they should have had the courtesy to leave the room (Hear, hear - Ed)."
Saturday night's alright...
6th February: Street Nights Promotions are hosting ten turn-up-and-race nights for street-legal
cars and bikes under the lights at Henstridge Park in Somerset this year. The Saturday Night Street events, held over
a quarter mile, are open to everything from Mum's shopper to US muscle cars and the fastest street bikes as long as
they are street-legal.
The Saturday Night Street events are the brainchild of joint Eurodragster.com Links sponsor Lee Child and business partner
Kevin King. "We want to provide a feeder for drag racing", Lee told Eurodragster.com. "There are no tracks in the South
West and we hope to encourage people into the sport. All street-legal vehicles are welcome."
©Eurodragster.com
Starting on Saturday 22nd April the facility will open at 17:00, then the track will be open between 18:00 and 23:00.
The track and shutdown area will be fully lit. Entry to the facility is £5 and sign-on for unlimited runs is
£20. A valid DVLC licence must be produced, and a crash helmet must be worn in open-top cars and of course on
bikes. Basic safety checks will be carried out on all vehicles.
For those who prefer Show to Go there will be a Show and Shine area. Trophies will be presented for the quickest ET
by a car and bike and for the best Show car and bike. Trade stands and on-site catering will also be available.

First UK Hall of Fame inductees.
5th February: The first three inductees to the UK Drag Racing Hall of Fame were presented
at last night's joint APIRA/SPRC Dinner Dance and Trophy Presentation in Northampton.
Allan Herridge: The legendary Bootsie whose image the Hall of Fame features and after whom the trophy
is named. Allan built one of the UK's first dragsters and in a long and glorious career proved
that he could turn his hand to everything from managing a race track to driving race cars and building them
before his life was tragically cut short in a top end accident. Allan's trophy was accepted by his then-partner
Lesley Wright who gave us this tribute:
In 1962 when Allan built his first dragster there was no rule book, no drawings to follow - just pictures
in American Hot Rod magazine. In the early days the dragsters were run at National Sprint Association
meetings at various RAF and USAF airfields around the country. If there were barriers they were straw bales,
the runways had no grip juice and there were no spectators.
In 1966 all that changed when Santa Pod Raceway opened its gates to the public. Allan fully engaged in the development
of the sport, helping to form an organising club and writing construction rules for the safety of participants
and spectators. Along with John Harrison and Brian Sparrow, Dragster Developments made all their own parts and
became renowned for shortening rear axles.
When I met Allan in 1976 what struck me was his happy-go-lucky attitude to life. He would say he was "Just lucky"
being in the right place at the right time to be offered the drive of the Santa Pod-owned cars: the Gloworm
Funny Car, Commuter, Firefly, Asphalt Alleygator, and the Gladiator Funny Car.
Bob and Roy Phelps popularised the sport by bringing over the top drivers and riders from the States. During the
course of a meeting Allan would be helping out other teams by doing repairs over in Number 6. He moved up to live
close to Santa Pod and was its full-time track manager. On Sunday he'd be driving a Fueller, Funny Car, Jet or
Rocket and on Monday supervising the litter pickers and emptying the toilets!
©Eurodragster.com
I like to think that Allan's character - his friendly and helpful nature, his passion to develop the sport -
is still stamped right through it today.
I know that Allan would be very humbled by the Hall of Fame award being named after him. I can almost hear him
laugh and rattle off a dozen names of people he would think were more deserving of it than him, but on his
behalf and on behalf ot the magical memory many of us have of him - thank you from the bottom of my heart.
The Phelps Family: Bob, Roy and Eileen developed Santa Pod Raceway from an unused
USAF base to Europe's first purpose-built drag strip. As well as running Santa Pod and promoting events there,
they built and maintained the track's own stable of race cars and persuaded some of the biggest names in US
drag racing to compete at Santa Pod. Selection Panel member and Santa Pod legend Stuart Bradbury accepted the
Phelps family's trophy.
Phil Evans: Phil has a long record of service to the sport, starting out as a racer in Sportsman and then
becoming a race official serving on the MSA Drag Racing Sub-Committee and the UK Tech Committee, and lately serving as
a member of the FIA Drag Racing Commission, as well as sponsoring the sport through his company Oil Control.
During his presentation speech, Santa Pod Raceway CEO Keith Bartlett said that there are plans to build a museum
at Santa Pod which amongst other features will house the Hall of Fame display.
We will be opening the official UK Hall of Fame web page with inductee biographies very shortly. The next
inductees will be presented at the Easter Thunderball at Santa Pod Raceway in April.

Murén: It's over for now.
4th February: Swedish Pro Stock racer Jan Murén has sold his beautiful Grand
Am Pro Stock to Kenneth and Håkan Soderström. Jan contested most of the 2005 FIA European Championship
in the new car after sitting out 2004 but told Eurodragster.com that his racing is done for now.
"I have been juggling too many balls and sooner or later you start to drop them", said Jan. "I am sad to sell
the car without reaching its potential, but my family and my work must take a front seat. I will still be around
racing but not directly involved. Hopefully I will return and race in the future but for now it's over."
Our good buddies at Svensk Dragracing have posted an interview with Håkan Soderström about his and
Kenneth's new purchase, which you can read at

4th February: Just as we went to post we heard the sad news that Swedish drag racing

Looking for some real street legal drag racing with a difference? Then tune into UK satellite and cable
channel Men and Motors and Pinks for the ultimate reality TV show,
writes Jerry Cookson. The format for Pinks is simple: take two men fuelled
by the need for speed, two fast cars racing in a
controlled environment, thrash it out over a quarter
of a mile, and at the end they trade pink slips for
real, hence the name pinks.
This weeks show featured two trash-talking
Chicago racers representing speed shops duke it out at
Cedar Falls Raceway, Iowa. Even though the loser came
away with nothing more than the loss of an $18,000 car
it was considered to be the great advertising ever
for the speed shop involved! According to the show's host and creator Rich
Christensen, "On Pinks racers are welcome to come on
my show and compete for titles. I don't take sides and
I don't care who wins or loses but I'm gonna make
sure it's a fair race."
Pinks airs on Men and Motors at Sky 136, NTL 404, Telewest
286 and Freeview 35 on Tuesdays at 8:30 pm and 3:30 am with
repeat showings on Wednesdays at 12:30pm and Thursdays at 3:30pm.

Eriksson impresses Söderquist.
3rd February: If you were tuned in to Eurodragster.com News yesterday you will have seen the picture of the latest addition
to Knut Söderquist's Carbon By Design Top Fuel Dragster team, which is being built by
ME Racing. Knut says that he is very impressed indeed with the
job done by Mats Eriksson and his team.
"I'd like to thank Mats for building me a fantastic car", Knut told Eurodragster.com. "He is so professional and has done just a beautiful job and a good deal. He
has also done a great job of making chassis mods to Micke Kågered's car. When Mats built Micke's car I suggested two inches of preload on the chassis
but it got too much traction. So Mats has lowered Micke's car and we're hoping that it will run real well now. We have no worries about the amount of horsepower - we
will be ready to compete against the American tune-ups. We've got a better batch of clutch disks for this year, and we've added a wheelie bar to Micke's car although
God knows if that will help!"
©Eurodragster.com
The new dragster is ready to go to Micke Kågered's shop to be put together. "We have most of the parts ready to put the car together in time for the FIA
Main Event but it will not be running at the Main Event as we are still looking for a driver", said Knut.
As things stand the Carbon By Design team are currently fielding only Micke Kågered's car but Knut will be in England on Monday where he will be talking
with interested parties before flying to the USA to deliver parts to the NHRA Winternationals including a new line of stainless steel valve covers for Hemi motors.
"We have had quite a few orders", said Knut. "We can also produce the valve covers in titanum. Forget grinding, just put them on and they are ready to go."
Knut says that some Top Fuel teams may get a shock this year. "There are so many good teams out there that no-one is sure to qualify", he said. "You can put
in four hard runs and not qualify and go away with nothing. The other Crew Chiefs are confident of qualifying but they will get a surprise!"
SMRA forum approaching.
3rd February: Super Modified Racers Association Chair Tim Garlick tells us that there has

"For those who missed the original news item on 18th December, this will be an open
discussion to explain the engine and technical regulations and the thinking behind them", says Tim. "It will include an explanation of current hardware, data-logging
techniques, tuning, and merits of Big versus Small Blocks and nitrous versus normally-aspirated combinations.

perfect fit for the bike so no alterations are necessary for him to feel comfortable when he starts testing his 400+ hp ride.
"Talks are underway with sponsors as the bike will run the whole Hellenic Championship with expectations of seven-second runs from the first year - not an easy task
on the unprepared Greek tracks.
"White Line Cycles will support the bike with trackside and set-up assistance until Kostas builds his own racing support infrastructure and assembles a
proper team. We wish him only the best!"
Goring adds to the Thunder!
1st February: Santa Pod Raceway have announced that Roger Goring's
Firestorm Jet Funny Car will
be making a return to Santa Pod at the Easter Thunderball. Roger (right) will be joining Martin Hill's
Fireforce 1 and Fireforce 3 in providing the Jet action at the Easter event and will making two
runs on the Saturday, Sunday and Monday of the race.
"The whole team is very pleased indeed to be returning to Santa Pod - it's been a long time", Roger told
Eurodragster.com. "This particular car has only run once at Santa Pod, at a NABD rally. We're not going to be
breaking Martin's records just yet but we will be doing our very best to put on a show, to run safely, and to
have a good time!"
Firestorm set new bests on just about every outing last season, with Roger's programme of incremental
improvements proving successful as the car finished the year in the 6.2s at over 255 mph. "We were delighted
with our progress", said Roger. "We were going quicker and faster and most importantly doing it consistently."
The Pontiac-bodied car has not needed a major winter service since a gear broke in the engine last summer and
it was stripped down and rebuilt then and there. "We've just made a couple of changes this winter", said Roger.
"We plan to attend a couple of test days before Easter and then we are very much looking forward to going to
Santa Pod to keep it safe and have a good weekend."
