Thanks to Robin Jackson for sending in this announcement Dragstalgia is just six weeks away. Santa Pod Racewayâs premier historic drag racing event is a major occasion on the British Drag Racing Hall of Fameâs calendar.

The names of the Hall of Fameâs new Members are revealed for the first time, prior to their induction at Novemberâs Gala, and the HoF conducts its annual Grand Auction & Sale to raise essential funds for itself and for its associated Benevolent Fund.
The HoF has an impressive selection of items ready to be unveiled on the Auction table, but further donations will always be most welcome. Anyone possessing artefacts, components, pictures, posters, paintings, clothing, memorabilia or other items of drag racing interest which they would like to see passed on to an appreciative new home while also benefiting both institutions in the process, is invited to donate them for auction or sale.
During The Main Event, the HoFâs Hon. Chair, Lesley Wright, is pleased to accept donated items delivered to her at Tony Bettsâ Venom Nostalgia Funny Car pit. Meanwhile, HoF director Phil Cottingham is happy to visit the pits to collect items. Collection visits can be arranged by emailing Phil at this link. All donations will be gratefully received.
The Hall of Fameâs directors, advisers and selectors and the Benevolent Fundâs trustees all serve in a voluntary capacity, pro bono.
Thanks to Remco Scheelings from Drag Racing Europe for this article on The Main Event and the 2025 FIA European Drag Racing Championship:
Itâs the end of May and that means the engines can finally be fired up again and the thousands of horsepower unleashed for the start of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship. The most prestigious drag racing championship in Europe kicks off with the traditional opener, The Main Event at Santa Pod Raceway! Jndia Erbacher (Top Fuel), Jonny Lagg (Top Methanol), Jere Rantaniemi (Pro Modified) and Jimmy Ă lund (Pro Stock) are the reigning champions, and the good news is that they will all defend their hard fought titles. What to expect in England, who are the favourites and who might surprise? It will once again be a tough fight with a title race that could go down to the wire, like last year when several titles were won and lost in the last run of the season.

Thanks to Nick Brooke-Langham for sending in this Nostalgia Nationals â Gasser Circus Race Report, Nick writes: The abundant and reviving warmth and sunshine of Friday at Santa Pod, was somewhat eroded by the time Saturday arrived, and all but a distant memory come Sunday. However, the bitterly cold wind that prevailed did ensure that all the Gasser Circus drivers and crew, blew away any of the cobwebs that were left after 8 months that elapsed since the last time the Gasser Circus were in the town of Santa Pod. The inordinately long period was finally over, with numerous drivers taking advantage of the Friday RWYB.
If you checked out the online entry list, there were 24 Gassers signed up for battle and what a battle it turned out to be. The friendliest of hostilities kicking off on Friday evening with Round 1 of qualifying. By the end of that session Number 1 Qualifier was Ray Turner in Green Onions.

Saturday just before 10:40, the fire up road was a glorious site with 12 rows of gassers side by side. Amongst them were two new Gassers, one the Ansen Ford Pop last campaigned over a full season by the much missed Merv Barnett. The Pop has been through a few owners, and is now under the custody and raced by Gasser Circus debutant Gary Nash. The other new Gasser was the Model A Coupe of Steph Milsom and Drew Mason known as Blunderbuss. Steph doing the racing with Drew crew chief having built the 350 Chevy that propels the Coupe. Drew locating the rolling project in the States, soon had one of his race engines in the car, and a Tony Pearson prepped Powerglide in a close relationship with the Chevy. However due to a diary mix up, Steph was out of the country, so Tony Pearson stepped in to the driverâs seat to debut the, you canât miss it Coupe.
It was also so pleasing to see 3 Gassers returning to competition, two after missing last year, Graham âWobblyâ Barton in his Austin Devon, High Anxiety, and Billy Jones in his now sign written Willys Coupe Grumpy Grizz, and Jason Hollamby who missed the latter half of 2024.
Also making their debut was Emily Latham- Taylor as she took control of the âNurse Stonerâ Nova, with owner Harvey Turner making his debut in Nostalgia Super Stocks.
Qualification 2 got underway and the noticeable highlights and lowlights began when Gary Nash unfortunately was shut down on the line with a small weep which was later traced to his dipstick lifting. Graham Barton on his return moved up from number 20 to 8th. Old crew mate Nick Hewison in his Short Fuse Fordson was taking on the car he used to assist with in the form of Gas Junkie Ray Irishâs Willys pickup.
At the end of their runs Nick stayed in 6th and Ray was languishing in 16th. Adam Kruczynski moved his 55 Chevy Not So Mellow Yellow into 5th. Emilie still getting to grips with the Nurse Stoner Nova ended the qualifying in the bump spot and current champion Simon Prest was sent back from the start with an oil leak.
At the conclusion of Saturdays Qualifying all bar one of the Gasser had qualified, with the top ten Gassers headed by Green Onions driven by Ray Turner.
Top 10
- Ray Turner - 10.75 and ran 10.75
- Jason Pickett - 9.79 and ran 9.79
- Brian Gibson - 11.79 and ran 11.79
- John Gibson - 10.77 and ran 10.77
- Simon Prest - 11.00 and ran 10.99
- Nick Brooke-Langham â 10.99 and ran 11.01
- Steve Matthews â 9.42 and ran 9.45
- Pat Hobbs 11.57 and ran 11.60
- Adam Kruczynski â 11.10 and ran 11.13
- Nick Hewison â 10.09 and ran 10.13

Sunday arrived and it was cloudier than the glorious Saturday we had just experienced, it had also delivered a cold wind that at times cut right through you, thankfully it wasnât a head wind. Also on the unwelcome list were a few Gassers which were sadly unable to undertake the eliminations, Martyn Hallam in his Hallam & Hallam 33 Willys had unfortunately had a rod exit through the side of his Hemi block, signalling the end of the block. Martyn now considering his time with a Hemi complete and a return to Chevy power a distinct possibility.
Adam Kruczynski was also out suffering an issue with his transmission, Patrick Hobbs in âBandito Birdâ Falcon had a broken diff to consider on his drive back to Devon, Nick Hewison Short Fuse had concerns for his Chevy engine and withdrew from competition, he was also joined by Keith Bartlett and his Roarin Rat 57 Chevy.
This all meant that Billy Jones âGrumpy Grizzâ Willys, Chris Layram âOuta Gasâ Pop, Ray Irish âGas Junkieâ Willys, Jason Hollamby, âJumpin Jalapenoâ Falcon, and Emilie Latham âTaylor âNurse Stonerâ Nova had byes to the 2nd round of Eliminations. Billy on his solo pass clocked a brilliant and exhilarating new PB stopping the clocks with a 9.93 @ 131 mph.
After the solo passes the first pairing saw Nervous Nick, âThe Traitorâ Pop taking on Tony Pearson âBlunderbussâ. This was a tricky one for Drew Mason as both cars had one of his race engines in them, and he had prepped both cars. Nick dialled in 10.99 unfortunately he ran a PB with a breakout 10.89. which meant the on the line race was won by Tony with a 11.71 non breakout run.

Next up were the pairing of Brian Gibson âIdentity Crisiâs and Sam Glenn in the father and son âGlenn & Glennâ Austin. Brian was running a different engine combination, and he was keen to advance as a potential head to head with his brother John was a possibility, as each were on opposite sides of the ladder. As the tree activated that remained a possibility as Sam left early too early. Despite this he did go onto run a perfect 10.14 on a 10.14 dial in. (Little consolation) The reigning Gasser Circus Champion was next up with Simon Prest in his âThe Rocketâ Mercury lining up alongside debutant Gary Nash in his âAnsen Racingâ Pop. Simon dialling 10.97 Gary 11.14 at the top end both had broken out with 10.81 and 11.07 Gary taking the win as he broke out by less.
Steve Matthews âHonky Tonkinâ 57 Chevy lined up alongside Sean âChiliâ Milsom âAinât Misbehavinâ Morris van, Sean with 10.03 on the van and Steve with 9.40 on his Chevy. This was a close race but it was Steve who took the win thanks to a holeshot with a 9.47 to Sean and his 10.08.
John Gibson âHigh Rollerâ came round next and in the opposite lane was Paul Dominey in the â640â Dorset. John dialled 10.76 and Paul 10.40 this could be a close race as so many of the other races had been. As the tree activated John was off on a green light pass but Paul had an issue and 1.3 seconds later he was off in pursuit but with John not breaking out Paul was out.
Jason Pickett in âCherry Bombâ 55 Chevy with a new Williams Brothers engine was all set to race Graham Barton in his âHigh Anxietyâ Devon but as Graham reacted to the tree the Devon coughed and died on the line leaving Jason on a solo. A frustrating end for Graham, but his return had been a big success.
Shortly before midday the track fell silent following a crash on it, thankfully despite the arrival of an Air Ambulance both drivers involved were reported well and recovering.
When Eliminations got underway again, Ray Irish was missing from the fire up road as was Jason Hollamby so their opponents Jason Pickett and Brian Gibson advanced on bye runs.
The rest of the races witnessed Ray Turner see off Steve Mathews with a better reaction time 0.05 to the slower 0.10.
John Gibson beat the impressive Emilie with a 10.82 on a 10.76, in the battle of next door neighbours and great friends Chris Layram took the bragging rights over Tony Pearson, with a 10.02 on a 10.01 and finally Billy Jones took the win on the startline against Gary Nash as Gary left a tad too early.
Quarter Final - No 1 qualifier Ray dialled 10.67 and John Gibson 10.76 yet another side by side race produced a double breakout with Ray coming out the better side of it and he advanced to the semi finals
Brain Gibson âIdentity Crisisâ vs Chris Layram 11.69 to 10.01 with both cars on a green light race Brian waited for the Power of Chrisâs Chevy engine to bring him into contention but by Ÿ track the gap was not closing as Chris detected something amiss with his engine and came off the throttle. Brian advanced.
Billy Jones was still buzzing from his new PBâs as he crept to the line with Jason Pickett in the opposing lane. Both cars were dialled into 9s with Billy on a 9.93 and Jason a 9.86. The area around the Pod had darkened as rain was in the air as the red cars came to the line. With the tree set and activated Billy reacted first but by 0.001 too early leaving a red on the tree which meant that Cherry Bomb advanced to the final as Jason had a bye in the semi-final.

The semi-final - had Jason run through on that bye and then the two friends Ray Turner taking on Brian Gibson. Ray dialled 10.65 Brian 11.69. These two love racing each other and were both up for it therefore it was a little surprising to see Rays reaction time being a 0.114 against Brianâs a 0.076. The chase was on and by mid track they were side by side and with both feathering at the top end to avoid breaking out, the win light went on in Rays lane.
Gasser Circus final - This was the battle of the 55 Chevyâs with Jason Pickett âCherry Bombâ and Ray Turner âGreen Onionsâ. Both drivers performed strong burnouts with Jason in the right hand lane. 10.69 on Rays back screen whilst Jason had 9.86. It is rare when the number 1 and number 2 qualifiers meet in the final but this is exactly what we had. Ray left first with Jason fractionally behind, but by mid track he had caught Ray and it was a race to the line, but as they ducked under the gantry the lights above each lane told the tale that Ray had won as Jason had broken out with a 9.79.

Ray Turner had made it a day that will be long remembered by not only two race classes but also more importantly the Turner family. As Ray was Gasser Circus Round Winner and his son Harvey had in his debut race won the Nostalgia Superstocks event. Absolutely stunning, I wonder if that has ever been achieved before.
The weekend will also be remembered for the amazing work by the safety crew at Santa Pod, who dealt with the crash on Sunday so professionally. We appreciate them keeping us safe and being there when and if it goes wrong.
As we now prepare for Round 2 at the Sportsman Nationals on the 7th â 8th June, we know we have another season of close racing ahead, and we cannot wait to get to it. The Gasser Circus wish to thank their sponsors Neil Melliard - Melliards Modern Lettering , Goodale Speed Shop, Rocket Racing and the Barnfind Brothers.
Thank you all from Gasser Circus Racing the Dream

Thanks to Martyn Greathead for sending the results and report from Straightliners Round 3 (Northern Nationals) at Melbourne Raceway last weekend:
NEW TRACK RECORD FOR PHIL WOOD ON FORCE OF NATURE, A BLISTERING 3.362SEC AT 165MPH.
Another superb weekend of racing with new 5sec club members and a bunch of Personal Bests. Mark Flavell had done some prep on the track during the week over the first 100 foot which seemed to pay dividends.
It was nice to see an 8 bike field of Nostalgia Pro Stock bikes along, Rod Spry posting his first 5sec run and backing it up, eventually beating Richard Peachy to win the class. Of note in the class was Patrick Hodgkiss making progress running a string of 5s and a new PB.
In 6sec class Chris Hodgson beat Carl Mountford out on his Kawasaki ZX10R for the first time.
Junior Sprint car saw Dexter Wilson beat Jude Elliott, Dexter having put down a new PB over the weekend to the delight of the team.
Straightliners No Mercy bikes had a 22 bike field. Phil Wood had some epic battles along the way, most spent with the front wheel hovering above the track eventually making the final beating Damien Hope and Phil Tomlinson along the way.
Terry Mountford pushed Nigel Stott into a breakout and then got a bye into the final Terry cutting a decent reaction time to just get the front wheel across the stripe ahead of Phil.

Juniors had Toby Jackson beat Maisie Thornton to match up with Alfie Barraclough in the final Alfie just getting across the stripe first, it was close.
Scooters No Mercy Eric Cope beat Stuart McVicker to line up against Stephen Holt in the final. Stephen got the better start and put one over on Eric.
There was an 8 car field in Six Sixty Cars and the eliminations threw up a few surprises. In the semiâs first surprise was Bob Molden pulling a red light against Pete Lane and father and son Shaun and Andy Rounthwaite, Andy the one getting the cherry. Pete and Shaun both got cracking starts with Pete just edging Shaun at the stripe.

Thanks to Manston Park Raceway's Paul No-Prep Marston for sending this latest press release: MANSTON GOES ΠMILE LAUNCHES RWYB STREETCAR SHOOTOUT COMPETITION. Paul writes:
Manston Raceway Park, the home of Grass Roots drag racing in the South are proud to announce that their next event June 7th-8th Clash on the Concrete will be a Πmile event. We have had the green light from NORA, our sanctioning body and will be a full quarter mile dragstrip from now on.
This is an exciting development, that we have been working hard to make it a reality. When asked Paul Marston said "We needed to gauge the grip levels offered by the surface and get a couple of events under our belts. Before I would be comfortable in running the full quarter of a mile. Clearly we have plenty of run off area, it was just the safety aspect that I wanted to sure of, and our record speaks for itself. We have put some test runs on a Πmile distance and have had no stability issues at all, the surface offers good grip. Naturally it is a No Prep surface, so there is a limit, but for RWYB cars and potentially some index/Bracket racing it should be perfect."
MRP have had a lot of requests from local RWYB enthusiasts to run full Œ, so we listened and can now offer it.

We will also be holding an 8 car Streetcar Shootout Competition for all RWYB drivers. Its is completely free to enter, just put your name down during the lunch break if you want to enter. There is no prize money, but there will be some nice trophies. All names will be drawn out of the hat, so its random pairing, all the way thru to the final. So lets see those BMWâs, Audiâs, Golf;s mix it up with the Musclecars and old English tin and see who really is top dog on the ÂŒ mile.
We will still keep the No Prep to the traditional 1/8th mile, now with no time and no speed, but RWYB will be full Πmile with a timing slip.
For more details and to book tickets go to this link and follow our Facebook page by clicking here or call/text Paul on 07831 650230.

Pro Modified racer John Tebenham will be returning to the track at next weekend's Doorslammers at Santa Pod, and has ambitions for a strong finish:
If I want to do anything in my career in drag racing, it would definitely be winning The Door Slammers.
We had a great shot a winning the 2024 Euro Finals. All my guys are stepping up this year. I love the draw format. A massive thanks for Keith for putting on this meeting.
Please come and say hello and support us, somebody last year said itâs not that difficult, go buy a 5 second car and come and beat us. Every Pro Mod team deserves full respect, this is a really tough classâŠâŠ oh yeah, and bloody expensive.
See you next weekend.

Thanks to Manston Park Raceway's Paul No-Prep Marston for sending this report on last weekend's More Money Nationals event, Paul writes: The Mayday Bank Holiday saw the second event at Britainâs newest Grass Roots Drag Strip, Manston Raceway Park, Manston Kent, CT12 5FE. More Money Nationals, hosting Vintage Velocity Drags. The weather kept away, and we got the Friday test day, Saturday and Sunday done, without any incident. There is a real nice, relaxed vibe developing at MRP, plenty of track time and a real grass roots feel to the place.
The classes featured were again Big Tyre, Small Tyre, Tailgate and of course RWYB. Vintage Velocity Drags also had 3 Classes, 4 Banger, Flathead V8 and OHV. With ÂŁ500.00 posted for the Vintage classes in each category, there was plenty to play for.
Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner for Phill Drewitt, who won both Big and Small Tyre on Saturday, with Chris Skinner as runner-up in Small Tyre in his mighty but diminutive SBC powered Fiat. James Grew was runner-up in Tailgate.
Other winners included Bill Wilson in both Tailgate on Saturday and Small Tyre on Sunday, breaking Phil Drewitts strangle hold on Small Tyre. Steve Giles with his beautiful Chevelle was runner-up in Small Tyre.
One of the comments that we keep getting is that Manston Raceway Park appears to have one of the flattest and smoothest surfaces around. With plenty of mechanical grip available.

It was great to see Dave Crowhurst with his mighty VW Beetle Wanger putting in some test hits, amongst some seriously quick RWYB cars, from about every marquee imaginable. Including a Belgian guy on holiday in his Belgian registered Ford 105E who joined the RWYB!!!
A massive thank you to all our Manston Marshalls and NORA Officials, who performed and conducted themselves very professionally throughout the weekend. These are the comments of the racers and spectators, so credit where credit was due. Having Paul Venners in the tower was a pleasure, we must also mention our lane sponsors John Bean and GB Scaffolding SE and Customville 020 8590 1449, for all your American Car Part needs, stock, or performance, they stock them all and have regular weekly shipments. Support the people who support us. It was lovely to host ex Editor of Eurodragster Tog and his cameras, he certainly gets about, please view his work in the event gallery on Eurodragster by clicking here.

Special mention to Eurodragster sponsor Jeff and Belinda Bull of Jeff Bull Racing Engines. Thanks to Debbie Clarke for sending in this report from the Festival of Power, report by Brett Featherstone (AKA Nova Skotia) Brett writes:
Round 2: and the season is already showing early potential for newcomer Charlie Seward who comes out in Q1 and absolutely nails it with an 8.8506 to cement his place at the top of the ladder .0006 off dial and that is going to take some serious luck to get around. 3 racers take a big step in the right direction all with .00 numbers Nick Mugridge, Adrian Portelli and John Bean. 5 - 15 with .0 something to make it a great start to qualifying.
39 teams make Q1 with another new racer to the class Gavin Jackson sitting on the bump spot. Tough breakouts for championship contesters Jess Bishop -0.004. Stevie Gates -0.01 followed by Bill Wilson, Jack McClure and Paul Marston.
Charlie Seward takes the Hayley Hadfield Perfect ET Award, thank you Andy Hadfield.
Q2. Susie McClure has the best attempt at knocking Charlie off the top spot with a .001 off dial run, well done team McClure. Paul Marston jumps from unqualified to No. 6 with a .009 off dial, Rory Hart jumps up to No. 9 with a .01 and now the top 22 are all .0 something. Dave Cherrett now on the bump spot and 42 racers have now made qualifying passes. Jess, Jack, Stevie and Bill still no improvements and with unexpected rain we are now done for the day.
Q3. With the rain effecting qualifying yesterday this looks to be a final qualifying run, so all to play for especially the 10 outside the field currently. Amy Watkins makes a nice move to No. 7 with a .009 off dial, Tom Kaye moves into the show at No. 22, Jess Bishop makes a vital move into No. 26 and the .0 somethings go to number 30, with last events OAP winner Bob Molden just in on the bump. The list not qualified just shows how tough this class is becoming. Geoff Cowley, Roy Walker, Stevie Gates, Ian King (multiple time top fuel bike champion) Jason Pickett, Ronnie Mercer (DRU European 2024 Champion), Gavin Jackson, Pete Creswell (Multi event winner in Super Gas and Super Comp) Jack McClure and Bill Wilson.
The Ladder is now set for Sunday morning Round 1 Eliminations.
E1. First out Mason Griffith and I in the amazing John Bean loan car, double breakout as the track is top form. Husband and wife match-up next on as Susie goes red meaning Doug might get a dinner later after all! Double breakout again as OAP Bob gets a break as Laura goes red, Collin Morrice cuts a light on Hans Van der spek for the win, Charlie Seward goes -0.01 red, runs 0.01 off dial to give Dave Cherrett the win, Rory Hart takes a holeshot win over Jess Bishop who runs .008 off dial, Marc Huxley goes red first over Dave Rudd to give Dave the win light, John Bean closer to dial takes the win over Don Scott, Adrian Portelli beats Leigh Morris in a super close race, Billy Everitt beats a super unlucky breakout by Darren Huxley -0.001, Neill Watkins goes red to give Nick Mugridge the win. Simon Innes goes red as does Vic Parsons and Vic goes through. Tom âCherryâ Watkins goes GREEN but breaksout to give Matthew Dowdy the breakout win by the lesser amount. Stuart âKiwiâ Thompson in another double breakout takes the win over Marie Mills, Amy Watkins breaks out against Rouven Dawson who runs 0.006 off dial for the win and finally Tom Kaye cuts a great light to beat Paul Marston.
E2. Billy Everitt goes .004 light as Rouven Dawson sees red, Dave Rudd breaksout giving OAP Bob the circle honours, Mason Griffiths breaksout by a tiny margin again giving John Bean the win. Doug McClure beats a breakout by Rory Hart, Nick Mugridge beats Matthew Dowdy with a closer to dial finish, Dave Cherrett goes 0.001 on the tree but Vic Parsons goes around him at the top end. Collin Morrice goes -0.01 breakout to give Adrian Portelli the win and Stuart âKiwiâ Thompson cuts a great light to beat Tom Kaye with an identical ET dial difference +0.0166.
E3. Stuart âIâm on fire this weekendâ Thompson goes 0.01 on the tree to take out Doug McClure, Nick Mugridge goes 0.01 off dial again to beat Billy Everitt, Vic Parsons goes red to give John Bean a red-light victory and OAP Bob goes -0.001 red ouch!! To give Adrian Portelli a sleepy 0.455 reaction the win.
Semi-final time and the Nostalgia Superstock Racers have shown their true colours but only one will advance to the final and what a great race, with almost identical reaction times Stuart taking the narrowest win margin. John Bean goes -0.007 red to give Nick Mugridge the win.
Final Stuart Thompson vs Nick Mugridge
Stuart taking the win ending a great weekend show from Nostalgia Superstock.

The British Drag Racing Historians are proud to present Beadle Brothers Part 3:
Tony and Don Beadle played a big part in British Drag Racing and this last part of their story kicks off in 1974 when Tony set up the British Flathead Racers Association and worked towards running a Flathead Eliminator in the UK. Tony was always looking for a cheap way to race and built an Econo Dragster in the early â80s then formed the Rover V8 Challenge Series. In the early 1990s Tony finally hung up his helmet to focus on his journalism role.
Mick Gleadow has been in touch with Don Beadle and Tonyâs widow Jennie gathering information along with his own memories of the Beadle brothers to write these stories. Edited by Nick Pettitt.

Happy Birthday for today to Wild Bunch crew member for Rebel and Wrathchild Hayley Fyfe, and to Super Twin 'Beast' team member and former Mantorp Park administrator L-o Jonsson. Have a great day
Santa Pod Raceway announced this press release on Friday 2nd May - "SANTA PODâS âTHE MAIN EVENTâ BRINGS TOP RACERS FROM EUROPE AND AMERICA" Drag racers from 16 European countries plus the USA will gather at Santa Pod Raceway over late Mayâs Spring Bank Holiday weekend to contest the opening round of 2025âs FIA/FIM European Championships. With an entry list approaching 300-strong, The Main Event encompasses competition for national as well as international title chases, with classes ranging from youngsters piloting Junior Dragsters and Dragbikes all the way up to the fastest two- and four-wheeled adult machinery on the planet.
300mph Top Fuel Dragsters are the quickest and fastest of them all. Switzerlandâs Jndia Erbacher defends the 2024 crown she snatched dramatically by winning the seasonâs final two races. Erbacher renews on-track hostilities with Swedenâs speed queen, Susanne Callin, whom she narrowly beat to the title. In performance terms, the two are closely matched, each with 3.8-second, 320mph personal bests. Among the opposition, Britainâs Liam Jones returns to international competition after five yearsâ absence, having limbered up at last monthâs Easter event.

The Pro Modified contest brings another chance to see the remarkable Estonian racer, Andres Arnover, in action. The Main Event combines the opening FIA Pro Mod Championship round with round two of the Motorsport UK British Drag Racing Championship. Arnover already leads the UK points after winning round one at Easter with the quickest Pro Mod elapsed time achieved in Europe, 5.695sec, dipping beneath the 5.7sec barrier which few others have even approached. Arnover already holds Santa Podâs Pro Mod speed record at 254.86mph. Another 250mph-plus racer is the defending FIA champion, Finlandâs Jere Rantaniemi, who scooped the crown with a final-round victory over Britainâs Andy Robinson last September at the European Finals. Both will figure in the 16-strong international field of racers bidding to overcome the turbocharged Estonian.
Aside from the other FIA classes â Pro Stock, Top Methanol â the Funny Car Cup is led by a Texan record setter. When 1960s American racers began cramming nitro-burning dragster engines into saloon-style cars, someone quipped that these machines looked âkinda funnyâ, and the name stuck â funny peculiar, not funny ha-ha. At Easter, Texas veteran Terry Haddock set new European Funny Car marks at 4.124sec/307.88mph en route to victory. Like Top Fuel Dragsters, the wild-handling Funnies race over 1,000 feet instead of the classic quarter-mile, for safety reasons. Britainâs Steve Ashdown will be Haddockâs chief opposition.

On two wheels, the FIM European Championship brings entries in Top Fuel Bike, nitro SuperTwin, Pro Stock and Super Street bikes. The Main Eventâs supporting programme includes full fields of UK championship car and motorcycle classes.
The Main Event 2025 takes place from Friday 23rd to Monday 26th May at Santa Pod Raceway, near Wellingborough NN29 7XA, with a wide range of off-track entertainments complementing the racing action. Full event details are available at https://santapod.co.uk/main-event.php.
Book in advance, online at https://santapodtickets.com/p/mainevent or by telephoning the Box Office at 01234 782828. Paddock access is free for a close-up view of all the pitside action.

Thanks to Force of Nature rider Graham Sykes for sending in this fantastic report from the Festival of Power, Graham write: What a fantastic bank holiday weekend at the Festival of Power at Santa pod with the Force of Nature Steam Rocket Bike.
Friday we ran around 6.00 pm and unfortunately I headed straight for the wall on the launch with a 0.75 second 60 ft and had to peddle the rockets power to avoid the left hand wall . So we coasted to a 6.3 1/4 Saturday we faired a little better and ran a 0.74 second 60 ft and just as I went past the grandstand around 175 mph a gust of wind took me and I had to lift again for 0.4 seconds so spoiled the run and coasted to a 6.1 second 1/4.
Sunday however was great weather and we were called to the line around 3.00 pm . And ran a 0.73 second 60 ft and 1.99 second 330ft. 3.2 second 1/8th and 6.05 second 1/4. Thatâs my personal best and the bikes fastest 1/4. The fastest ever run for a steam powered vehicle and one of the fastest runs ever to the 1/8th at Santa Pod .
The commentators Darryl Bradford and Colin Theobald said they cannot think of any other vehicle that has run sub 2 seconds 330ft . We are soooooo close to running a 5 second 1/4. And all this with the small rocket motor. With 88 litres of water and 1.9 seconds of power.
Really looking forward to getting the big motor finished later this year with 110 litres of water and up to 3 seconds of power! We damaged a few valve seats with having to shut off a few times so thatâs the next problem trying to locate some seats in time .Next meeting is Melbourne 10-11th May see you there. Thanks go to Santa pod for all your help and support.
Graham and the "Force of Nature" Steam Rocket Bike team

Thanks to Comp Bike racer Daniel Madeira for sending in this report from the Festival of Power at Santa Pod Raceway, Daniel writes: First of all, I would like to thank you for the hard work you do covering every single event. Festival of Power was our first event on the comb bike after moving from 8.5, and we think we've found our class for now.
Racing against very competitive riders gave us the motivation to push the bike and fine-tune it after every run, resulting in PB's after PB's this weekend. On test day, we managed a new PB of 7.52 at 188 mph. After qualifying in 6th with another PB of 7.44 at 195.56 mph, we achieved yet another PB of 7.40 at 195.56 mph in the first elimination round against Pete Slater. In round 2 against G. Dance, we run 7.47. In round 3 against M. Piggott, who was in top form running 7.2, we knew it was hard to beat, so we did our best to get him of the line but it was not enough; however, we pulled another PB of 7.38 at 197.08. We're looking forward to the next racing meeting with some upgrades.
Happy Birthday for today to Wild Bunch racer Bradley Cooper, Outlaw Flat Four racer Jack Marriage and Comp Bike racer Michael Gooding We hope you all had a great day!
